MLB Best Bets for July 23
Philadelphia Phillies at Cleveland Guardians
It's a inter-league matchup today as the Phillies and Guardians tie a bow on their 3 game series on Lake Erie this afternoon. After taking the first two games of the series Cleveland now sits at 49-49 on the season and its the first time they've been at or over .500 in some time. The recent success aside this offense in Cleveland still has major issues and that's reflected by the fact that they've scored just 4.15 runs per game this season, the 6th lowest rate in the MLB. They will be pitted against Aaron Nola today too and the Phillies star pitcher seems to be sorting things out after a tough first half of the season. Since June Nola has seen his ERA dip down into the threes and has allowed 21 earned runs in his last 51.2 innings pitched. With his return to form he should be able to handle a Cleveland offense that has struggled. These factors have me watching an under bet in this game today especially because the Guardians have gone under in 56.8% of their games, the 3rd highest rate in the MLB and the Phillies have gone under in 56.2% of games this season, the 4th highest rate. I will roll with the under and bank on the status quo for each of these teams this afternoon.
Pick: Phillies & Guardians Under 9 Runs (-120 on PointsBet)
Arizona Diamondbacks at Cincinnati Reds
The trip out to Ohio has not been a good one for Arizona as they look to salvage the final game of this series after having lost the previous two games. It's so hard to keep a good team down though and its even harder to sweep a team in the MLB so I immediately like the Diamondbacks chances this Sunday afternoon. It's going to likely be a high scoring game as Jose Ruiz and Luke Weaver start on the bump for their clubs but seeing as Arizona is 28-21 on the road I will give them the edge. Luke Weaver is a special kind of bad right now too for the Reds with his 7.22 ERA and 1.63 WHIP on the season, its been even worse in June and July. Over his 32.1 innings of work in those months he has allowed 35 earned runs and 50 total hits, that's impressively terrible! Will the Reds offense keep them in the game sure but the Diamondbacks are set up well to steal a win on the road today and that's the direction I am wagering in. I am also going to tack on a player prop for today as Corbin Carroll is in a great spot today hitting 3rd in a lineup I expect to score some big time runs. His prop line sits at 2.5 in hits/runs/RBIs but for a guy that's hitting .281 with 7 runs scored over the last 5 games I fully believe he can top that number with ease. We are also going to get plus money on the prop so that's always a welcome addition to a wager so give me Corbin Carrol to get it done today against the Reds.
Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks Money Line (-110 on BetMGM)
Pick: Corbin Carroll Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (+115 on DraftKings)
