Mets vs. Brewers Predictions, Picks & Odds: NL Wild Card Game 2, 10/2

Game 1 of the National League Wild Card series between the Mets and Brewers went to the visiting team where the Mets offense continued their hot stretch and beat up on Freddy Peralta and the Brewers bullpen.
Will the Mets go on and sweep the Brewers or will Milwaukee find a way to slow down this Mets offense and find a way to even this three game series at one win apiece?
For our Mets vs. Brewers predictions for Game 2 let’s take a look at the top stories and pitching matchups for this playoff contest.
Mets vs. Brewers Predictions for NL Wild Card Game 2
The Mets bats stayed hot in Game 1 with, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit, New York scored three runs in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead and then when down 4-3 had themselves a five run fifth inning to close the door and take an 8-4 Game 1 victory.
Mark Vientos, Jesse Winker and JD Martinez each had two RBI in the Mets Game 1 victory. On the opposite side we saw Bryce Turang with three hits, Jackson Chourio with two hits and an RBI and William Contreras with two RBI but that was all.
Willy Adames went 0-for-3 as did Garrett Mitchell who went 0-3 which included an 0-2 with runners in scoring position. Game 2 will be a bit more interesting as the Mets send out lefty Sean Manaea to the mound while the Brewers pitch righty Frankie Montas.
Manaea put together a strong season for the Mets, going 12-5 with a 3.47 ERA while striking out 184 over 181.2 innings. Montas was acquired by the Brewers after beginning the season with the Reds but really did not pitch well in either spot this season, going 7-11 overall with a 4.84 ERA. Will the starting pitching be the key to our Mets vs. Brewers predictions for Game 2?
Milwaukee Brewers: Can The Brewers Avoid The Sweep?
The pressure is on the home team here today to avoid the sweep. With Frankie Montas on the mound, given his current form, the Brewers will need their top hitters to really come through.
The issue there? Well, with a lefty on the mound, the Brewers are going to be in tough spots given the number of lefties in their lineup. Yes, William Contreras hits lefties well as does Jackson Chourio but Bryce Turang and Garrett Mitchell are both left-handed hitters and Willy Adames actually struggles against southpaws as well despite hitting from the right side.
In Game 2 we should see Gary Sanchez and Blaker Perkins likely enter the lineup to add some extra right-handed juice in hopes of getting a lift off of southpaw Sean Manaea.
New York Mets: Will The Mets Continue Their Hot Run?
The Mets offense just needs to keep on rolling and this matchup against Frankie Montas is certainly not one where I’d think they go and get shut down.
Yesterday we didn’t even see the top hitters in Francico Lindor or Pete Alonso do the damage but instead Mark Vientos, Jesse Winker and JD Martinez combined for six of the teams eight RBI.
With the game total set at 7.5, runs are expected and as long as Sean Manaea and the Mets bullpen can hold things together and limit the damage, I think we could see the Mets pull off the road sweep.

Mets vs. Brewers Starting Pitcher & Lineup
Manaea put together a strong season for the Mets, going 12-5 with a 3.47 ERA while striking out 184 over 181.2 innings. That said, he just faced the Brewers last week and got smoked, allowing five runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings.
The Brewers offense as a whole has been a middling team against left-handed pitching this season but the Mets will need Manaea to be MUCH better here in Game 2.
Frankie Montas, Milwaukee Brewers
Like Manaea, we just saw Montas against the Mets in that same matchup and he too struggled, allowing two runs over four innings.
Montas was acquired by the Brewers after beginning the season with the Reds but really did not pitch well in either spot this season, going 7-11 overall with a 4.84 ERA.
Though he lasted just four innings in his most recent outing against the Mets, I’m sure the Brewers would be happy to get that outing again and let their bullpen do the rest.
Mets vs. Brewers SGP: Frankie Montas O1.5 ER Allowed + Sean Manaea O1.5 ER Allowed (+134 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
For our Mets vs. Brewers picks, we are going with a same game parlay for the two starting pitchers.
With the game total set at 7.5 runs and the over 7.5 runs sitting at -115 we are expecting both of these offenses to put runs on the board. Yesterday both Freddy Peralta of the Brewers and Luis Severino of the Mets both allowed three earned runs each.
Now add in the fact that we just saw these two pitchers go head-to-head last week and both allowed more than 1.5 earned runs with Manaea getting tagged for five earned runs and Montas allowing two earned over four innings of work. Let’s look for these offenses to get going early here again in Game 2.

Player News
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
José Soriano allowed three runs over five innings while not factoring in the decision Thursday against the Blue Jays.
Soriano left with a 4-3 lead, but it was erased quickly after his departure. The 26-year-old was not exactly dominant in his outing with eight hits allowed and four free passes, but he did strike out six to help balance things out a smidgen. Soriano takes an even ERA of 4.00 into a scheduled start against the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday. There should be better options for that one.
