2025 Player Outlook
Contreras is one of, if not the best offensive talents behind the dish heading into 2025. After hitting 23 home runs and hitting .381 last season, he has an even higher ceiling in 2025. Ideally, his ground ball rate isn’t in the mid-50s like it’s been the last three seasons, because he makes a ton of hard contact (10 percent barrel rate, 49.0% hard hit rate), and he has great feel of the strike zone. There’re not many catchers that will play 150+ games in a season, and that alone increases his fantasy value. He should be the first catcher off the board by a comfortable margin in fantasy baseball drafts this season, as he’s set to hit 23-28 home runs with a .270+ batting average.
Player News
William Contreras went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI double as the Brewers fell to the Rockies in Colorado on Thursday,
The Brewers finally broke through against Ryan Feltner in the fourth inning as Christian Yelich laced a leadoff double into the left field corner and Contreras followed with one of his own to drive him in. Contreras also worked a walk in the ballgame, reaching safely in two of his four plate appearances. His bat started to show signs of life during their series against the Rockies — with RBI in three consecutive games — and he’s now hitting .167/.314/.333 with a pair of homers and five RBI on the season.
William Contreras homered and drove in his first two runs of the season on Tuesday as the Brewers walloped the Rockies 7-1 at Coors Field.
Contreras finally collected his first RBI of the season with a run-scoring single off of Kyle Freeland in the third inning that extended the Brewers’ lead to 3-0. He then victimized Jimmy Herget for a 374-foot (96.4 mph EV) solo shot in the seventh inning that made it a 7-1 ballgame. Hopefully this is exactly what the 27-year-old backstop needs to finally get his bat going. With his 2-for-4 night he’s now hitting .143/.286/.229 through his first 10 games on the season.
William Contreras is getting his first day off of the season Sunday against the Reds.
Spending more time at DH, Contreras didn’t get his first day off until June 9 last year. However, the Brewers like having Christian Yelich in the DH spot now, and Contreras had caught eight of the first nine games before sitting today. He’s also off to a poor 3-for-31 start at the plate. He’s still probably fantasy baseball’s No. 1 catcher, but Conteras’s stock is down a little, just because he isn’t in line for as many DH reps.
William Contreras went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI on Friday as the Brewers dropped a slugfest to the Diamondbacks.
The Brewers made life difficult on former ace Corbin Burnes on Friday, scoring eight runs off of him in the first four innings. Contreras contributed to that fun with an RBI double in the opening inning and a run-scoring single in the second. With his four-hit night, the game’s top backstop is now hitting .455 (15-for-33) with a pair of homers, nine RBI and a stolen base so far this spring.
