Cory Schneider has been sent to the minors.
Schneider stopped 27 of 30 shots in a win against New Jersey on Sunday. With Schneider back in the minors, Ilya Sorokin should serve as the backup goaltender on Tuesday.
Cory Schneider defended 27 of 30 shots in a 4-3 win over New Jersey on Sunday.
Schneider won in his debut with the Islanders and got his first NHL win since March 6, 2020 when he was member of the Devils. He got the chance to play on Sunday because of an injury to Ilya Sorokin and to provide Semyon Varlamov with a breather.
Cory Schneider will be between the pipes on Sunday afternoon against New Jersey.
Schneider will make his Islanders debut after Semyon Varlamov started three games in four nights this week. He hasn't played at the NHL level since 2019-20 when he posted a mark of 3-6-2 with a 3.53 goals-against average and .887 save percentage in 13 appearances as a member of the Devils.
Cory Schneider has been added to the active roster of the New York Islanders.
Ilya Sorokin left Sunday's game against Tampa Bay after two periods due to an upper-body injury. An update on his status is expected to come on Tuesday, but it looks like Schneider will occupy the backup role behind Semyon Varlamov until Sorokin can return.
