Jarryd Hayne
Player News
49ers placed Jarryd Hayne on reserve-retired list.
Hayne announced his retirement over the weekend, making his NFL experiment a short-lived one. Hopefully his exposure however will open the door for other Rugby players to take a chance at transitioning to the American football way.
Jarryd Hayne has retired from the NFL to pursue the Olympics.
Hayne was one of the better stories in football last season as the former rugby player made the 49ers roster out of training camp. In all Hayne totaled 52 yards on 17 carries while adding 27 yards on six catches during his NFL career.
Jarryd Hayne logged nine carries for 27 yards while adding five catches on six targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 32-17 loss to the Lions.
Hayne saw his first real action of the season in Week 16 as he totaled just under 50 yards of offense in the 49ers loss. Considering there have been a handful of injuries to the running back position ahead of him this season, Hayne should be viewed as nothing more than depth for the 49ers, which gives him next to no fantasy alue moving forward.
49ers promote RB Jarryd Hayne to the active roster.
With Shane Draughn out of action in Week 16, the 49ers need some depth at RB. Hayne was added once Alex Boone was sent to the IR.
