Monta Ellis

At this point in time, Los Angeles would simply like to work out Ellis according to Benjamin. Ellis has reportedly worked out for a number of NBA teams but has yet to receive a contract offer from any of them. It is probably unlikely that the Lakers do so, so until then carry on with your regularly scheduled programming. 

It was reported last week that Ellis had gone through a workout with the Mavericks as well, so the 35-year-old, undersized two-guard is clearly trying to make an NBA comeback. He might be able to snag a training camp deal somewhere, but even if he manages to make an NBA squad's regular-season roster, he's well past his days of relevancy in fantasy hoops.

Ellis hasn't been in the league since 2016, and we haven't seen Born Ready since 2018, but IT2 played three games last season for the Pelicans and he was reportedly in "great shape" at his workout. Ellis and Stephenson seem like long-shots to make an NBA comeback, but perhaps Thomas can earn another minimum-level deal to serve as an emergency depth kind of guy.

Ellis, who was slapped with a five-game suspension in mid-June for violation of the league's anti-drug policy, has been waived by the Pacers. The move isn't too surprising, as the subtraction of Paul George has all but drained Indiana of their playoff hopes and thrust them into a rebuilding effort. Ellis, a 31-year-old veteran, likely wouldn't have seen much playing time anyway, as the trade that sent George to Oklahoma City also brought in Victor Oladipo, a young shooting guard who could command upwards of 30 to 35 minutes a night.
