Former MLB pitcher Shaun Marcum has officially announced his retirement.
At 34 years of age, Marcum has officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. In nine professional seasons, he pitched for the Blue Jays, Brewers, Mets and Indians. His career ends with a 61-48 record and a 3.93 ERA.
Shaun Marcum refused his minor league assignment and has elected free agency.
Marcum is now set to become a free agent and will go out and look for a new job. He could be a potential fifth starter for some teams but Marcum may be headed to the bullpen.

Marcum struggled this year for the Indians before being sent to the minor leagues. Prior to his recent elbow troubles, the 33-year-old posted a .324 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 64:21 K:BB ratio in 14 starts for the Indians Triple-A affiliate.
Shaun Marcum has cleared waivers and has accepted assignment to Triple-A Columbus.
Marcum will work on overcoming his last outing for the Indians when he gave up six earned runs in two innings against the Cubs. Marcum may still need some time to recover from his thoracic outlet syndrome surgery.
