Eovaldi pitched through three scoreless frames against the Dodgers before giving up a two-run blast to Freddie Freeman to tie the game in the fourth. A base hit and a double would plate one more run for Los Angeles. The 35-year-old right-hander tossed two more scoreless innings before his day was done after six. He struck out seven with no walks. Eovaldi will take an outstanding 2.64 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and a 31/2 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings into a start against the Giants in San Francisco next Saturday.

The 35-year-old right-hander struck out three batters on the day and didn’t allow a base on balls. He served up a two-run homer to Cal Raleigh in the opening inning, and that would turn out to be all of the offense that the Mariners would need in the ballgame. The M’s also scratched out a run in the sixth as Eovaldi plunked Randy Arozarena with the bases loaded. Eovaldi got 11 whiffs on 89 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 29 percent. Now 1-2 on the season, he’ll bring a 2.55 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and a 24/2 K/BB ratio (24 2/3 innings) into a tough battle against the Dodgers on Saturday.

It doesn’t come as a total shock that the Rangers were a bit conservative here after Eovaldi threw 99 pitches in a complete-game shutout in his previous start. He gave up a pair of early runs before things unraveled in his final frame when Michael Busch delivered a run-scoring triple with two outs in the frame that chased him from the contest. He finished with four strikeouts and walked two batters. He’ll square off against the Mariners on Sunday in his third consecutive road start.

It was a Maddux, as Eovaldi needed 99 pitches to complete the four-hitter. He excelled tonight even those his velocity was down 1-1.5 mph from last year. He really had the splitter and curve working, though, getting 14 of his 18 missed swings on the offerings. Eovaldi’s previous shutouts came with the Red Sox in 2022 and the Rangers two years ago. Tonight was just his fifth complete game in 277 career starts.
