Padres designated LHP Matt Thornton for assignment on Saturday.
Matt Thornton posted a ERA above 9 in July. His recent struggles have been too much for the Padres to keep him on the big league squad. He will head to Triple-A and hope to get back into form.
Matt Thornton (Achilles) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.
The veteran reliever will look to get his first action of 2016 after being activated. At this point, he has no fantasy value.
Matt Thornton could join the Padres on Friday.
The 39-year-old is on a rehab assignment right now. He has yet to pitch in the majors this season, though he has a 3.35 career ERA and 1.27 WHIP.
Matt Thornton will throw a rehab outing Tuesday and could join the Padres as early as this weekend.
He should be back by the end of May, coming off a serious hamstring injury. Not that I want to make a waiver claim, but in NL-only leagues, he has some value once he returns with his K rate and peripherals.
