Blanks was released by the Giants on Friday, Alec Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The oft-injured first baseman batted just .232 in 34 games with Triple-A Sacramento, so the Giants opted to part ways with him to make room for other higher-upside prospects. Blanks has a good amount of big-league experience to his name, but his injury history could deter any potential suitors in free agency.
Kyle Blanks re-signed with the Giants on a minor league contract.
Giants have reassigned Kyle Blanks to minor-league camp.
Injury issues continue to befall a talented power hitter. Kyle Blanks has light tower power but has been unable to stay on the field. He has had both heels operated on and was shut down due to Achilles soreness last week. As a result, the Giants have sent him to minor league camp to rehab as they try to whittle down the roster for opening day. Blanks has hit 33 home runs in 278 career games but has never played over 100 games in a season in the majors. For now, he is best left to the waiver wire.
Kyle Blanks was scratched Thursday with right Achilles issue.
This should come as no surprise considering that Blanks has dealt with Achilles injuries in recent years. It doesn't appear that this injury will keep him out for an extended period of time, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Blanks will have zero fantasy value outside of deep NL-Only leagues this year.
