Williams, who last pitched in the big leagues for the Phillies back in 2015, was called up by the Cardinals despite having a 4.89 ERA in Triple-A this year. The 34-year-old is 52-66 lifetime with a 4.57 ERA in the Major Leagues, so he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar. The most logical reason for his call-up is for him to be an innings eater over the next few days due to the Cardinals bullpen being depleted.

Williams has been dreadful for a few years now but his major league experience is apparently worth something. In 2015 Williams went 4-12 with a 5.80 ERA over 121 innings for the Phillies.

Williams spent last year being awful on an awful Phillies team. This offseason he had surgery on his Achilles and will miss some of next season. The 35-year old veteran hasn't been signed by anyone, so this surgery halts any plans he may have had of signing with a team before the season begins.

The save was his first of the season, and it came on his first night since being removed from the rotation. Although this is nothing to overreact about, maybe Williams has found his niche as a late inning innings eater.
