Hector Noesi signed a one-year contract with the Fubon Guardians of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
The right-hander will earn around $500,000. Noesi had signed a minor league deal with the Pirates last December, but wound up opting out of playing in 2020 due to family concerns. The 33-year-old hurler owns a 5.51 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 303/160 K/BB ratio over 423 innings in 119 appearances at the big league level in his career.
Hector Noesi has decided against playing in 2020.
Noesi cited family concerns as the reason he won't be playing in 2020. There is a chance that the right-hander wouldn't have made the Pirates, anyway, as he's coming off a season where he allowed an 8.46 ERA over 27 2/3 innings for Miami in 2019. He'll likely be organizational depth for someone -- possibly Pittsburgh -- in 2021.
Noesi and the Pirates agreed to a minor-league deal Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
The 32-year-old threw 27.2 innings for the Marlins last year without much success, finishing with an 8.46 ERA and a 6.39 FIP. In 423 career innings at the highest level, he owns an unimpressive 5.51 ERA.
Noesi was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Noesi struggled in his 12 major-league appearances (four starts) this season, recording a 1.59 WHIP and 8.46 ERA in 27.2 innings pitched. The 32-year-old will now return to the minors, where he posted a 3.82 ERA and a 133:30 K:BB in 125 innings pitched at the Triple-A level in 2019.
