Blue Jays released Franklin Morales.
On Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays released left handed RP Franklin Morales. When Morales came to Toronto back in April he seemed capable of helping the team who was short on left handed relief. But after a couple poor performances, and a slow recovery from the DL, it became apparent Morales wasn't the same pitcher who posted a 3.18 ERA for the Royals in 2015. He was designated for assignment last Monday, before being released this Tuesday.
Franklin Morales (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Dunedin.
Morales had appeared in two games this season before landing on the disabled list. He is being used as a lefty specialist, facing just one batter in each appearance out of the bullpen. His eventual return to the Blue Jays bullpen would likely see him back in that lefty specialist role.
Blue Jays transferred LHP Franklin Morales to the 60-day disabled list.
Morales has been dealing with a bum shoulder since the beginning of April and has yet to do anything resembling mound work let alone be cleared for pretty much any pitching related activity. So as he is still a ways away and Toronto needed a 40-man roster spot for a call-up, he got moved to the 60-day DL. When he is healthy, he should be a factor in a middle relief role for the Blue Jays pen, but even when he returns, he has no fantasy value to speak of.
Franklin Morales has started throwing bullpen sessions, but still has no timetable for a return.
Morales' bullpen sessions have been described as "light" so far, so it seems that he is still a ways away from being ready to pitch again. Morales has not pitched for the Blue Jays since April 6th after experiencing soreness in his throwing shoulder. Him being able to throw light bullpen sessions is a step up from a couple of weeks ago where he was still only playing catch, but he's still a while away from being back with the major league club.
