Royals released LHP Erik Skoglund.
Skoglund hasn't made an appearance in the majors since the 2019 campaign and has been cut loose by the Royals after recording an inflated 6.65 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 24/9 K/BB ratio across 23 innings (15 appearances, five starts) this season in their minor league system.
Royals optioned LHP Daniel Tillo and LHP Angel Zerpa and also reassigned LHP Eric Skoglund to minor-league camp.
Skoglund owns a bloated 6.61 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 67/40 K/BB ratio across 109 innings (27 appearances, 22 starts) at the major-league level from 2017 to 2019. The 28-year-old southpaw will likely serve as organizational depth moving forward. Both Tillo and Zerpa are on the Royals' 40-man roster, but neither lefty is likely to contribute this season. Tillo is recovering from Tommy John surgery and Zerpa hasn't pitched above Rookie-ball yet.
Royals sent LHP Eric Skoglund outright to Triple-A Omaha.
Skoglund was designated for assignment back in March and has now officially cleared waivers. He'll remain in the organization.
Royals designated LHP Eric Skoglund for assignment.
Skoglund was given the DFA to make room on the 40-man roster for Trevor Rosenthal. The 27-year-old owns a 6.61 ERA over three partial seasons and 109 innings. The southpaw was also shut down due to "arm tenderness" after pitching in the Cactus League opener on February 21. He'll likely serve as pitching depth at Triple-A Omaha if he goes unclaimed.
