Lewis announced Friday that he has ended his playing career and has accepted a position in the Rangers' front office, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Lewis, 38, spent 11 seasons in the majors with the Rangers, Tigers and Athletics, with nine of those years coming in Texas. He wraps up his career with a 77-72 record, 4.47 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 233 appearances (195 starts).
Rangers are undecided about the future of Colby Lewis heading into the offseason.
Colby Lewis was just 6-5 this season with a 3.71 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. His season was derailed by injuries, but it is worth noting that he lost his last five appearances of the regular season. Can you really blame the team for being non-committal to an average pitcher? Absolutely not. He's a low-end fantasy asset heading into next season.
Colby Lewis has been announced as the Game 3 starter on Sunday.
Lewis returned from the DL last month and saw his ERA balloon from 2.81 to 3.71 over his final five starts, recording a loss in each of those games. He's pitched well against Toronto this season, tossing 14 innings in two games, allowing five earned runs with a 13/1 K:BB ratio. If the Rangers are going to win this series, they'll need a solid performance out of Lewis.
Rangers activated RHP Colby Lewis from the 60-day disabled list.
This move was expected as Lewis had been confirmed as today's starter for the Rangers a few days ago. The 37-year-odl hasn't pitched for the Rangers since mid-June, but went 6-1 with a 3.21 ERA in his 15 starts earlier this season.
