The reliever returned from a back injury Monday, and earned two appearances on the mound against the Giants this past week. During his time on the bump, Qualls allowed two earned runs off four hits while just recording three outs, bloating his ERA to 5.40 for the season. The 38-year-old has been in the majors since 2005, and has been a part of the Rockies organization for the last year and a half.

As expected, Qualls is back in the Rockies' bullpen after a minimum stay on the disabled list. The 38-year-old owns a 4.60 ERA and 9:5 K:BB ratio through 15.2 innings of relief this season.

The veteran right-hander landed on the DL earlier in the week due to back spasms, though he appears to be progressing well. Qualls, who said he felt normal during Wednesday's bullpen, believes he'll be ready to return from the disabled list when first eligible next week.

This is the first report of Qualls being plagued by back discomfort. This injury may be attributable to his past two shaky relief outings in which he allowed two earned runs over his previous 1.2 innings of work. Carlos Estevez has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.
