Quentin had retired in May of last season while with the Mariners and was attempting a comeback this spring but after being re-assigned, and refusing, to the minor league camp on Saturday he has now been released. He will remain unsigned and theoretically retired at this point.

With this move, expect Byron Buxton to open the season as the starting CF in Minnesota. Oswaldo Arcia has secured himself a bench position with the big league club. Quentin can, of course, refuse the assignment to the minors, which may effectively end his career in baseball. Too bad that injuries derailed a once promising career.
