Boyer was cut loose by the Royals on Wednesday, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic reports.
Boyer will look for a new home after recently returning from the 60-day DL (back), which has limited him to just 21.2 innings of work in the big leagues this season. Throughout those outings, he's logged an unsightly 12.05 ERA and 2.08 WHIP, including another rough showing versus Toronto on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, Jorge Lopez was called up from Triple-A Omaha.
Boyer (back) was activated off the 60-day disabled list Sunday, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic Kansas City reports.
Boyer has been on the disabled list since late May with a lower-back strain. The veteran right-hander has a 11.76 ERA, 2.08 WHIP and only nine strikeouts over 20.2 innings this season.
Boyer (back) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Monday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
Boyer has been on the shelf with a lower-back strain since May 30, but it's good to see he's progressing toward a return. He'll be eligible to return at the end of July, although it remains unknown if he'll require more time before coming off the 60-day disabled list.
Boyer (back) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday.
The Royals had to clear a spot on the 40-man roster after claiming Enny Romero off waivers, and did so by transferring Boyer to the 60-day DL. Boyer has been on the shelf since May 30 and will now be ineligible to return until the end of July.
