DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
A 14-game slate can be very intimidating. There are so many options to choose from yet we can’t pick them all. If you’re building just one lineup, you need to make sure that you are targeting the right players with upside. We also have to make sure that we are selecting the right goalie. They will make or break your lineup. Let’s take a look at some options you need to be considering.
Recommended DFS Starting Goalies
Top Options for Saves
Andrei Vasilevskiy Vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Connor Hellebuyck Vs. Edmonton Oilers
Adin Hill Vs. Vancouver Canucks
Best Odds for a Win
Jeremy Swayman Vs. San Jose Sharks
Sergei Bobrovsky Vs. Montreal Canadiens
Pyotr Kochetkov Vs. New York Islanders
Favorite Goalies to Use for DFS Lineups
Jeremy Swayman, G, Boston Bruins
I know the Boston Bruins have lost a couple of games in a row, but there is no way they are losing to the San Jose Sharks on home ice. The Sharks have ZERO wins on the road and I can’t see a path for them to change that. Jeremy Swayman is in a great spot, the only issue is whether he sees enough volume to hit value.
Joseph Woll, G, Toronto Maple Leafs
Joseph Woll made 38 saves against the Florida Panthers and is starting to see more consecutive starts. Seattle doesn’t score goals and they don’t have a dangerous offence. He’s an excellent option in all formats.
Juuse Saros, G, Nashville Predators
I still can’t trust the Minnesota Wild, especially on the road. Nashville is a great team at home and Juuse Saros has been really hot of late. He’s won his last four starts in a row and has allowed just six goals in the last three games. Great spot for him to do some damage at low ownership.
John Gibson, G, Anaheim Ducks
The Washington Capitals are playing their second game in as many nights and I don’t see them having enough gas in the tank to score goals. John Gibson has been better in his last two starts and has a chance to really provide us with some value. It’s not a sexy play, but it’s one that can win you a GPP.
Cayden Primeau, G, Montreal Canadiens
The Florida Panthers are playing their third game in four nights. Montreal is on a back-to-back, but you have to believe that they will have some compete in them to keep this game close, right? Cayden Primeau hasn’t been good on home ice, but he was solid in his last game and is only $6800 on DK. This is a high-risk/high-reward play, but you know the kid is going to face a ton of shots, so if he can hit the save bonus and keep the goals to a minimum, then he can hit value without having to pick up the win.
Recommended DFS Skaters
Highest Expected Goal Totals
Boston Bruins Vs MacKenzie Blackwood (4.3)
Florida Panthers Vs. Cayden Primeau (4.0)
Detroit Red Wings Vs. Petr Mrazek (4.0)
Favorite Skaters to Use for DFS Lineups
Auston Matthews, C, Toronto Maple Leafs
Despite all of Toronto’s struggles, Auston Matthews has six goals and 40 shots on goal in the last ten games. He’s an elite shooter who can score goals and he does have 14 on the season. If you’re spending up at the Centre position, he is the way to go.
J.T. Compher, C, Detroit Red Wings
This play only works if Dylan Larkin is out of the lineup. J.T. Compher was on the top line yesterday against Detroit and didn’t look too bad. He didn’t register a point, but his matchup on paper tonight is much better. He’s a good value play that can help you build a solid GPP lineup.
David Pastrnak, W, Boston Bruins
I get not wanting to pay $9800 on DraftKings for any player, but man, I’m truly terrified of what David Pastrnak could do to the Sharks. We know he loves to shoot the puck and he’s going to get every chance to do it. He needs a goal and the shot bonus to hit value, which isn’t an impossible task for him.
Filip Forsberg, W, Nashville Predators
Filip Forsberg is my favourite option tonight and it’s not even close. Minnesota is a mess and Forsberg just can’t stop racking up points. He has 15 points in the last ten games and is averaging over 42 shots on goal. If Pasta isn’t your first option, then this man is the next-best one.
Luke Hughes, D, New Jersey Devils
I’m looking for as much value as I can find on the blue line and it starts with Luke Hughes. If Dougie Hamilton can’t go, then Hughes becomes a great option. He’s going to see time on the top power play unit and a healthy amount of minutes five-on-five. He’s also very well priced at $3800. This is the kind of value we need if we want to pay up for some elite forwards.
Justin Barron, D, Montreal Canadiens
Again, I am trying to find value on defence. Florida leads the league in shots per game and Montreal gives up the third most shots per game. Even if Florida is on their third game in four nights, the Canadiens can’t defend. Justin Barron has been seeing a lot of ice time and has certainly taken advantage of that. We know he can block shots, but it’s also his offensive upside that we like. He kills penalties and is also on the second power play unit. He doesn’t need a point tonight to hit value.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Panthers released TE Jordan Matthews.
Matthews converted to tight end a few years ago and hasn’t made much noise at the position. The change has, however, likely kept him in the league for a few more seasons. He appeared in four games with the Panthers last year but didn’t record any stats on offense. The Panthers also released or waived WR Dax Milne, C Andrew Raym, and TE Colin Granger.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
