NHL DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Stacks Today: Tuesday Playbook

Published: Mar 04, 2025
Welcome to another playbook filled with NHL DFS picks! We have a massive ten-game slate with some elite players in fantastic matchups. We are going to have to make some tough choices for NHL DFS picks today, but don’t worry, we are here to help!
There are a handful of goalies with excellent matchups, but some of them are just traps. We need to ensure we are focused and sticking with netminders who can win the game and provide us valuable NHL DFS projections. Let’s dive into the action and see which players we need to keep an eye on in today's NHL DFS picks.
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, March 4th
Before we get into the actual NHL DFS picks, let’s make some pick’em picks for the night over on Sleeper.
There are lots of ways we try to fill your wallet over here at Fantasy Alarm and this is just another option.
NHL Pick 'Em Picks On Sleeper Fantasy Today
- Tage Thompson O/3.5 SOG
- Nathan MacKinnon O/4.5 SOG
- Connor McDavid O/0.5 PPP
The Buffalo Sabres are playing their second game in as many nights, but they still have a pretty decent matchup on paper. Tage Thompson’s numbers on home ice are really good, especially his shot volume. He finished with five last night on the road, but we know the Sharks can’t defend and Buffalo is going to need their best player tonight to pop off.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are an absolute mess. They are horrendous defensively and they are in Colorado tonight. Nathan MacKinnon’s shot volume hasn’t been consistent this season, but when he goes off, it’s on a whole other level. The current level of 4.5 is high, but the Penguins allow so many scoring chances against that MacKinnon could hit the over before the third period starts.
The Edmonton Oilers are at home against the Anaheim Ducks? Sign me up for a big night from Connor McDavid! The Oilers’ power play hasn’t been as dangerous this season as in previous years, but the Ducks penalty kill is #NotGood and McDavid only needs one chance to get a point. I like his odds.
Tuesday Salary Cap DFS Picks
Goalie Of The Day: Connor Hellebuyck - WPG
There are a ton of mediocre goalies above $8K on DraftKings and that’s a path I’m not going down. We will trust the best goalie in the NHL right now in Connor Hellebuyck. The Islanders are playing the tail end of a back-to-back and they couldn’t find a way to get a single puck past Igor Shesterkin. I think we see a very big game for Hellebuyck and it’s a steal to get him at $7900.
Honourable Mention: Jeremy Swayman - BOS
Jeremy Swayman is 0-3-2 in his last five starts, so why in the world would we trust him tonight? Well, the Nashville Predators are in town, and they are horrendous. This game has all the makings of a low-scoring affair and Swayman does have pretty good numbers on home ice. We are betting against the Predators here, so be prepared for some disappointment if it doesn’t go our way.
Player Of The Day: Leon Draisaitl - EDM
Leon Draisaitl doesn’t get the respect that he deserves. He has nine goals and 15 points in the last ten games and is ONLY $8200 on DK. I know that seems like a lot, but he should be pushing $9500, especially with a home game against the Ducks. He leads the league in goals and will probably add a few more to his total before it’s all said and done.
Honorable Mention: David Pastrnak - BOS
I originally had Nathan MacKinnon in this spot, but we can’t ignore just how elite David Pastrnak has been this season. The Bruins would be nothing without him, and he continues to put this team on his back and try to carry them to the playoffs. His price tag is up there, but you know exactly what you’re getting from Pasta. It’s hard to stack him with any of the plugs skating on his line, so you can use him as a single bullet in all formats.
Value Play Of The Day: Matthew Savoie - EDM
Matthew Savoie is expected to take Jeff Skinner’s spot in the lineup and should skate next to Draisaitl. At $2500, I don’t care if he’s not seeing any power play time, he needs just a single point to hit value and that’s not a high bar to clear. The kid has looked good in the NHL so far this season and hopefully he can keep it going tonight.
Honorable Mention: Valeri Nichushkin - COL
The good folks over on DK have decided to give us a gift for tonight. They have Valeri Nichuskin priced at $5900, which is comedy. He has been very good since returning to action and he is going to get so many quality looks tonight. He should be a staple in your DK lineups.
Stack Of The Day - COL PP1 (Nathan MacKinnon - Valeri Nichushkin - Cale Makar)
I can only imagine the damage this three-man power play could do if Tristan Jarry is confirmed to start. You have three guys who aren’t afraid to shoot the puck going up against a goalie that can’t make a save. It’s going to cost you an arm and a leg to roster all three, but the floor is extremely high, and the upside is to the moon.

Player News
Dolphins signed No. 13 overall pick DT Kenneth Grant to a four-year contract.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Grant will sign his contract today. The former Michigan defensive tackle is expected to fill a major void left by Christian Wilkins, who left for the Raiders in the 2024 offseason. Grant totaled 32 tackles, three sacks, and seven TFLs in his final season at Michigan and excelled at stopping the run while also generating 27 pressures in his final season, per PFF.
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
