Published: Jan 07, 2025
Welcome to another NHL DFS Playbook! We have a massive 10-game slate with some high-scoring teams.
We can’t just go out and pay up for every superstar, so tough choices will need to be made. Let’s take a look at which players we should be targeting for tonight's NHL DFS picks.
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, January 7th
Before we get into NHL DFS picks, let’s make some pick’ems for the night over on Sleeper.
There are lots of ways we try to fill your wallet over here at Fantasy Alarm and this is just another option.
- David Pastrnak O/4.5 SOG
- Jack Eichel O/0.5 A
- Zach Werenski O/3.5 SOG
NHL DFS Pick'em Picks On Sleeper Fantasy
I feel like we are getting a slight discount with David Pastrnak tonight. He has finished with five or more shots in six straight games and now he gets the Oilers, who aren’t exactly defensive experts. The bar seems pretty high, but Pastrnak has been clearing it with ease. Hopefully, he can push his shot streak to seven games.
The Vegas Golden Knights get Alexandar Georgiev and the San Jose Sharks, so you know this game is going to be filled with goals. Jack Eichel can fill the net, but he’s also a very good passer. Considering how many goals could be scored tonight, there’s no question he picks up an assist.
I debated really hard about going with Zach Werenski and his shot total. He has 160 shots on the year, but only 60 of them have come on the road. The Blue Jackets are not the same team on the road as they are at home, but the Penguins come into this game allowing the most shots against. Werenski is a shooting machine, so even though the numbers don’t look great, I’m willing to trust him because he’s just that good.
Tuesday Salary Cap DFS Picks
Goalie Of The Day: Connor Hellebuyck - WPG
I know that the Winnipeg Jets have stumbled the last few games, but they get a matchup against one of the lowest scoring teams in the NHL, the Nashville Predators. Connor Hellebuyck is elite and so is his matchup.
He’s going to be chalk, but not as chalk-y as Adin Hill, who actually has a sub .900 SV% on the road.
Player Of The Day: Jack Eichel - VGK
You’re going to want to have some exposure to Vegas tonight. As mentioned above, Georgiev is in goal, and he’s been nothing shy of a disaster this season.
The Golden Knights are going to have so many good chances to find the back of the net and you have to think that Jack Eichel will find his name on the scoresheet a few times. The upside for him is massive.
Value Play Of The Day: Tanner Pearson - VGK
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We had Tanner Pearson in the spot a few nights ago and it paid off. His price tag has gone up to $3000, but that’s still not high enough considering he is still on the top line and is seeing close to 16 minutes of ice time per night.
I expect his ownership to be high, but the savings alone is enough for me to have him in almost every lineup.
Stack Of The Day - PIT1 (Rickard Rakell - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust)
I don’t love the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight, but I do think there is some value to exploit. The Blue Jackets aren’t as good on the road and their penalty kill isn’t great. The Penguins do allow a ton of shots against, but their power play is elite.
We can kill two birds with one stone here by playing Pittsburgh’s top line, since all three are on the top unit too. The hope is, the Penguins will fall behind and run their studs out, giving them a slight boost in minutes. We might be able to snag the whole line at reasonable ownership, a nice added bonus.
