NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 3/4

As a reminder, the NHL trade deadline is on Friday, and that has led to some teams deciding to rest players.

It's not a widespread issue across the league but it's important to note regarding NHL best bets today since it can open up value for some players that move up in the lineup due to rest.

Jets vs. Islanders Prediction: Tuesday, March 4th

The Winnipeg Jets lead the league in points and are significantly better than the New York Islanders. That's the short version of this matchup, but let's dive into some details.

I've said throughout the season that I love to bet on good teams in a spot to bounce back and that's exactly what we have with the Jets, who have lost their last two games. Meanwhile, the Islanders are a sinking ship with five losses in their last seven games, as well as being on the second night of a back-to-back.

That means we shouldn't see Ilya Sorokin in net for the Islanders and it should be Jakub Skarek. That doesn't bode well for the Islanders overall, since they are already allowing 3.38 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations since the start of February, which is the fourth worst in the league.

The Jets are better in every conceivable way compared to the Islanders and getting them at nearly even money is the spot to target.

Penguins vs. Avalanche Prediction: Tuesday, March 4th

Nathan MacKinnon is a point machine, and the Pittsburgh Penguins are terrible. MacKinnon comes in with 91 points in 61 games to lead the NHL and with this type of matchup, we're jumping all over his point prop.

Since the start of February, the Penguins have allowed 3.56 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second worst in the league. Only the Chicago Blackhawks are worse than the Penguins, not the company you want to keep in the NHL.

MacKinnon, as usual, comes in with 15 points in his last 10 games, along with a staggering 51 shots on goal. We've seen this for years from Nate Dogg and he's not slowing down. With Martin Necas finding his stride on the top line alongside Artturi Lehkonen, they have plenty of scoring potential, putting MacKinnon in an elite spot.
