Giants vs. Steelers Predictions for Monday Night Football, NFL Week 8
It’s not as if New York have been without their prime time games already this season either. The G-Men will have been in the spotlight three times since Week 4 following this Monday Night Football game, so it’s clear that the NFL has wanted to feature these two historic franchises.
However, with inverse records, it’s safe to say that they’re on opposite trajectories. Despite all the drama surrounding the Steelers QB situation, at 5-2, they are very much in the mix for an AFC North title. Meanwhile, New York’s 2-5 record has them at the bottom of the NFC East.
What is similar about these teams is that they generally provide low-scoring matchups. Of course, oddsmakers know that as well, so given the very low total, we’ll be focusing on a different market for the best bet from our Giants vs. Steelers picks.
New York Giants: Offensive Woes
Following their Week 1 blowout loss, the New York Giants were actually more competitive than most fans anticipated, either winning or keeping things within reach in their next three games. However, they’ve been back on the struggle bus, losing back-to-back games by two possessions.
It’s primarily been the offense that has been lackluster, failing to even reach double digits the past two weeks. Again, this supports a low-scoring game, as do prime time games in general, but oddsmakers have done us no favors in that regard. Even still, the G-Men’s woes still allow us to lock in a top pick.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Riding The Wave
After leading the team to a 4-2 record, there were plenty of questions raised when head coach Mike Tomlin decided to bench QB Justin Fields last week and give veteran QB Russell Wilson the start. While that was the plan from the start, most didn’t expect Fields to win four of six games.
Regardless, Wilson was able to help the Steelers cruise through the New York Jets - also in a prime time game - by 22 points. So, while it may have been questioned to begin with, Pittsburgh may as well just keep riding out their success. The second half of their season is significantly more difficult as well, so racking up wins now is crucial.
Giants vs. Steelers Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines
We’ve referenced the Giants vs. Steelers odds in terms of the total a few times, and below, you can see the latest lines at FanDuel Sportsbook:
- Point Spread: New York Giants +6 (-112) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers -6 (-108)
- Money Line: New York Giants (+195) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (-238)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 36.5 (-108) vs. Under 36.5 (-112)
Giants vs. Steelers Predictions: Pittsburgh -6 (-108 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
If we weren’t trending towards taking the under with such a low total, given that we also referenced New York’s offensive struggles, it likely comes as no surprise that our Giants vs. Steelers predictions are focused on Pittsburgh covering the spread.
It’s a rather significant one, but as long as it stays under a touchdown, we’re comfortable with it. Our projections have the Steelers favored by 7.5 points, and as mentioned, New York hasn’t been keeping games close as of late. Each of their last three games have been losses by nine or more points, with the most recent being a 28-3 blowout.
That was also at home, and Pittsburgh is no friendly place to play for opponents. Even if some fans still don’t fully trust the Steelers offense given the juggling at QB, New York has scored just three and seven points in their last two games. Pittsburgh is already known for their defense, so this matchup is quite a favorable one for them.
There have even been calls for head coach Brian Daboll and QB Daniel Jones to longer be featured in New York, so the franchise just simply doesn’t seem to have any confidence in turning their season around. Therefore, the best bet from our Giants vs. Steelers predictions is Pittsburgh -6 (-108 at FanDuel Sportsbook).
