2023 Fantasy Football Round Up September 2: Cooper Kupp's Unfortunate Hamstring Injury
This is it - Labor Day Weekend! The last weekend before the Lions and Chiefs kick off the NFL season on Thursday Night Football! And it’s EASILY the biggest weekend of the year for fantasy drafts. That’s why, in this final Friday roundup, we are ONLY focusing on fantasy football impacts. No boring regular NFL news and rumors - only things that could affect our fantasy football rankings or ADP. So let’s get right into it right now so you don’t look like a fool in front of your friends this weekend.
Cooper Kupp Suffers Setback With Hamstring Injury
Cooper Kupp suffered a hamstring injury last month and he reportedly suffered a setback this week in practice that has him “day-to-day”. And it could not come at a worse time. On one hand, you could get a discount on one of the best players in fantasy football. On the other, we’ve seen older players have lingering soft tissue injuries like Keenan Allen last year. The risk is yours to take.
Jonathan Taylor Will Miss At Least The First Four Weeks
This was previously reported but we want to be absolutely sure that everyone is aware - Jonathan Taylor has been officially placed on the PUP list ruling him out for a minimum of four weeks. There have been some rumors of guys like Kareem Hunt or Leonard Fournette signing on but for now the options are Deon Jackson, Zack Moss, and Evan Hull.
Jeff Wilson To Miss At Least Four Weeks
Jeff Wilson was placed on IR and his agent clarified that he is dealing with both rib and pinky injuries. Head coach Mike McDaniel had recently mentioned that Wilson had injuries that would make it difficult to protect himself which jives with this info. Veteran Raheem Mostert and rookie De’Von Achane will lead the way.
The San Francisco 49ers Will Try Not To “Overload” Christian McCaffrey
And that comes from head coach Kyle Shanahan specifically saying he will not be used the way he was in Carolina and will come off the field when possible. Now, every running back splits to some degree these days so CMC will probably still be awesome. But this could mean more carries for guys like Elijah Mitchell and Deebo Samuel.
Mike Evans Wants A New Contract By Week One
The star wide receiver added that he “doesn’t want to be a holdout and hurt the team” but that he believes he deserves a new deal. This opens the door for a few situations including an actual holdout, the Bucs and Evans parting ways next year, or maybe even a midseason trade.
Michael Thomas Is Fully Healthy After Body Previously “Rejected Hardware” After Surgery
A recent article covering the comeback for Michael Thomas delved into both his current and past health, clearing up some misconceptions and painting a clearer picture for us. Reportedly, the surgeries did not go well and the screws/plates used caused additional issues for Michael Thomas. All of the hardware has since been removed and he is healthy, catching ten passes in live 7v7 and 11v11 drills just the other day.
Samaje Perine Could Be Broncos Lead Back For A “Chunk” Of Season
Even though Javonte Williams has participated in practice and even a preseason game, Dan Graziano has reported that folks close to the situation believe that he will be eased in and that Samaje Perine will likely have a big role, at least early on.
Potential Early Returns For Wide Receivers Jerry Jeudy and Treylon Burks; Terry McLaurin Perhaps Not As Close
- Jerry Jeudy was spotted doing sidework at Thursday’s practice which usually means a return is imminent.
- Treylon Burks suffered an unfortunate LCL sprain on August 16th but has reportedly already found a way to make his way back out onto the practice field. No word yet on his status for Week One.
- The news was less compelling for Terry McLaurin who has not been seen at practice. His status for Week One has been described as “murky”.
