Bears vs. Texans Predictions, Picks & Odds: Week 2, Sunday Night Football 9/15

Hope. That’s all some teams can ask for. And the only way to really have it in the NFL, is to have a quarterback you can believe in. The Houston Texans hit on C.J. Stroud with the number two overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. And, by taking Caleb Williams with the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears have it too.

The Bears still might be a few steps behind the Texans in terms of their rebuild. And that’s why many Week 2 predictions have the Houston Texans beating the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football. But that doesn’t mean we can’t get an exciting game here. And, as we’ve learned time and time again in the NFL, any given team can win in any given week.

Even if you just want to see the Bears vs. Texans odds and have Bears vs. Texans picks of your own, don’t forget to scroll down at the end to see how you can scoop up a $1,500 BetMGM Sportsbook sign-up bonus! We suggest you do trail on our “best bets” as we went 4-for-4 on ours last week!

Bears vs. Texans Predictions For Sunday Night Football 8:20 ET, NFL Week 2

On paper this is a pretty fun matchup - that’s likely why it was pegged for Sunday Night Football. You have two ascending offenses that are loaded with stars. And both defenses have disruptors and Pro Bowlers entering their prime. That’s what the people want to see.

The difference is simple. C.J. Stroud has already established himself as an NFL caliber quarterback. He made it to the playoffs in his first season as a rookie. We are HOPING that Caleb Williams is that caliber of player. We don’t know for sure. And, through one game, the jury is still out. You can never blame a rookie for playing like a rookie. But he’ll need to play like a pro to win this game.

Chicago Bears: Will Keenan Allen and/or Rome Odunze Play?

Obviously, all eyes will be on Caleb Williams here. Everyone in the building will tell you that winning the game last week against the Titans was all that mattered. But you’d like to see your star prospect quarterback do a little better than 93 yards passing on a 48.3% completion percentage. That game left a lot to be desired.

He might not really even have a chance to show you what he’s capable of this weekend, unfortunately, as both Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze have been deemed truly questionable for this week. If they’re out, the second-best pass-catcher after DJ Moore might be tight end Gerald Everett given the next options are Tyler Scott and DeAndre Carter. D’Andre Swift will likely be asked to shoulder some of that load in the passing game.

The Bears have a stout defense, headlined by the Montez Sweat and Tremaine Edmunds up front. Shut down corner Jaylon Johnson could make life difficult for split end Nico Collins or whoever he finds in front of him this week.

Houston Texans: Are They Super Bowl Contenders?

There really aren’t a lot of holes in this Texans offense. They have arguably the best WR corps in the league with Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, and Tank Dell. Joe Mixon shouldered the load last week with 30 carries in the victory over the Indianapolis Colts. And tight end Dalton Schultz, who was questionable all week, is looking set to play.

The offensive line is anchored by All Pro tackle Laremy Tunsil so C.J. Stroud should be well protected. Bobby Slowik opted to ditch the fullback in Week One in favor of three WR sets but they have British Brooks on the roster if they want to go ground and pound.

With Will Anderson Jr, Folorunso Fatukasi, and Danielle Hunter up front, Caleb Williams has his work cut out for him. The Texans secondary is young and could be considered the weak point of the team, but the Bears might not be full strength with pass-catchers this week.

Bears vs. Texans: Texans -6.5 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

I’ll be honest here - the Bears were already in big trouble. And that was without the injuries. The Houston Texans right now are one of the most well-rounded and well-oiled machines in the league. C.J. Stroud is the real deal and his weapons only got better.

And, if the Bears do end up missing one or both of Keenan Allen or Rome Odunze, they are in for a world of hurt. DJ Moore facing down Derek Stingley all day with no help sounds like a nightmare. And let’s be honest - Caleb Williams is still only an idea, he hasn’t shown us anything yet. I know they WANT this to be a good matchup given the storylines of Caleb Williams vs. C.J. Stroud but I’m just not quite sure it is yet, even if everyone is healthy.
