NFL Injury Report Ahead Of Sunday's Week 1 Games: Fantasy Football Injuries

It’s time to shift our focus to the rest of the weekend’s games and take a look at our NFL Injury Report for Week 1 and who’s in, out, and questionable to play.

NFL Week 1 Injury Report: Quarterbacks

Justin Herbert Injury Update - Foot

Justin Herbert was able to practice fully on Wednesday and was not listed on their initial injury report but after league advice, he’s been placed on the Wednesday report. He’s still practicing in full, but with the league stepping in here, there is something here, whether it’s serious or not we’ll learn as the season progresses.

Herbert himself says it’s not plantar fasciitis:

But NFL Insider, Tom Pelissero, tweeted that it was:

This is a situation to monitor.

Russell Wilson Injury Update - Calf

A new injury as the week has progressed is Russell Wilson’s calf tightness per Ian Rapoport. He practiced on a limited basis Thursday but is now being looked at by doctors to see if there is anything else going on. We are just a few days removed from Wilson officially being named the starting quarterback, so this could open a window for Justin Fields to be the Steelers QB1 Week 1 depending on what Wilson and the team find out. He’s officially listed as questionable, and Justin Field took all the first-team reps in Friday’s practice.

NFL Week 1 Injury Report: Running Backs

Christian McCaffrey Injury Update - Calf/Achilles

The best thing that comes from this Christian McCaffrey injury is that the 49ers open up their season on Monday Night, so he gets one extra day to heal. Not that it will be much, he’s dealing with a calf/Achilles injury, so he needs as much time as possible. 49ers GM, Jon Lynch, spoke to KNBR and said he’s doing great, but they need him to progress throughout the week. He should be good, according to Lynch.

Antonio Gibson Injury Update - Hip

After a hip flare-up had Gibson downgraded to limited on Thursday’s practice, Gibson’s been listed as questionable for the Patriots Week 1 game against the Bengals. ESPN’s Mike Reiss said Gibson’s hip responded well to Friday’s practice and he expects to play come Sunday.

NFL Week 1 Injury Report: Wide Receivers

Puka Nacua Injury Update - Knee

After a lot of nothing on the Puka Nacua front, he was officially listed as a full participant on the Rams' first injury report on Wednesday. There never seemed to be much concern about Nacua’s status heading into Week 1, but this reaffirms that thought.

Tee Higgins Injury Update - Knee

This has not been an ideal week for Tee Higgins and his fantasy owners. Higgins practiced on a limited basis on Thursday and then was not practicing in any capacity on Friday. When asked about Higgins’ Week 1 status, head coach Zac Taylor said, “We’ll see”. He’s officially been listed as doubtful per the Bengals.

Mike Williams Injury Update - Knee

Everything on the Mike Williams front has been positive up to this point. He wasn’t placed on PUP (physically unable to perform) and was deemed ready for Week 1. While that’s still true, head coach Robert Salah said Williams will be on a pitch count and will not play nearly as many snaps as the rest of the first-team offense. That limits his Week 1 fantasy upside.

DeAndre Hopkins Injury Update - Knee

The Titans have officially listed DeAndre Hopkins as questionable for Week 1 but man, it’s been a loaded news week for the future Hall of Fame receiver. He revealed he has a tear in his MCL, has had claims from former Titans lineman, Taylor Lewan, that he’s not playing but yet, he’s practiced three days in a row, including on Friday.

What’s interesting about the Friday practice, is Hopkins is seen in the video below moving well and not wearing a leg sleeve.

Keenan Allen Injury Update - Heel

The Bears have officially listed Keenan Allen as questionable for Week 1 with a heel injury. With that being said, Allen practiced in full capacity on Friday after being limited on both Wednesday and Thursday, so he’s very likely to play with the upgrade in practice status. The Bears need to be more cautious with their 32-year-old receiver who has missed a handful of games in each of the last two seasons. Head coach Matt Eberflus expects him to play.

Josh Downs Injury Update - Ankle

Colts wide-out Josh Downs is yet to practice and because of that, head coach Shane Steichen has already ruled him out for Week 1. Downs has been seen running on the side of practice, so he is nearing a return.

Jordan Addison Injury Update - Ankle

This was told to us by Addison himself on Thursday, but he’s good to go ahead of Sunday’s Week 1 matchup against the Giants. He’s past his ankle sprain and was removed from the Vikings injury report completely heading into Sunday.

Tyler Lockett Injury Update - Leg

For anyone worried about Tyler Lockett officially being listed as questionable heading into Week 1, don’t be. Lockett spoke to the media earlier this week and said all the time off and limitations at practice are precautionary as he enters his 10th year in the NFL. He’s playing Week 1.

Roman Wilson Injury Update - Ankle

*Update* Wilson has officially been ruled out for Week 1 of the NFL season.

Per Steelers reporter, Ray Fittipaldo, he believes Roman Wilson will miss Week 1 with a sprained ankle. That makes a lot of sense after Wilson was captured off to the side of practice working with also injured Russell Wilson on Friday.

NFL Week 1 Injury Report: Tight Ends

Kyle Pitts Injury Update - Hamstring

Earlier in the week, Kyle Pitts was deemed limited in practice due to a hamstring strain per head coach Raheem Morris. If there were any concerns, they should be gone by now as Pitts finished the week off with two full practices. He’s ready to rock for Week 1.
