2024 Fantasy Football Week 6 IDP Report: Risers, Waiver Wire & Matchups
Week 6 is here and there are teams going on bye, coming off of a bye, and playing a game before their bye.
The teams with a bye in week 6 are the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, and Minnesota Vikings. Remove Fantasy Football Week 6 IDPs from those teams off of your starting lineup immediately.
2024 Fantasy Football Week 6 IDP Overview
The teams coming off of a bye week are the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tennessee Titans. This is important as several fantasy football general managers will drop their Fantasy Football IDPs during their bye.
Which leads us to a couple risers for Fantasy Football Week 6 IDPs.
Fantasy Football IDP Risers
Derwin James, defensive back of the Los Angeles Chargers is an elite Fantasy Football Week 6 IDP that fantasy football managers can grab midway through the season. It is rare to have a former #1 fantasy football position player available at all, so take a look around and see if he is a free agent in your Fantasy Football IDP league. In leagues with multiple bench spots available, add him without hesitation.
The Chargers are coming off their bye and James was suspended in week 4 versus the Chiefs. Now it is week 6, and two full weeks have taken place with James not scoring a single point… hence why he could be available. He is up against the Denver Broncos and it is a pivotal divisional game for both teams. James will step it up in both the run and pass game, keep an eye out for him and expect a big rise in his production.
Harold Landry is a defensive lineman for the Tennessee Titans and has dual designation on the sleeper platform. As he is already past his bye week, this becomes a major bonus for IDP fantasy football leagues. He can cover not only week 6 bye weeks, but all bye weeks going forward, and at multiple positions. A valuable piece of information for managers of Fantasy Football IDP leagues.
Landry also has a sack in three of his first four games of the season. He has over 45 in his career and he is the anchor of what is surprisingly a great defense. The Titans defense has kept them in games, and they will need to lead the way against division rival the Indianapolis Colts in week 6. Keep an eye on this riser and snag him up in IDP leagues with deep benches.
Dexter Lawrence had an amazing season last year, but was off to an inconsistent start in 2024. He has one good game then one bad game. True to form he had another great game on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. He had 3 sacks and 4 tackles to help deliver the win for the underdog New York Giants.
Despite his 6 sacks in the season his inconsistency has cost him a roster spot, and he is on the waivers in most IDP fantasy football leagues. The Giants do not have a bye until week 11, and Lawrence could be a plug and play IDP until their bye. He is rising on the board and will likely be picked up in the waiver wire this week.
Fantasy Football Week 6 IDP Waiver Wire Targets
The selections in last week’s IDP Report were excellent, and picking IDP waiver wire selections on bye weeks can make or break a fantasy football manager’s hopes. Not to worry Fantasy Alarm is here to deliver more stat stuffing selections.
Jerome Baker is available in most IDP leagues as he made his return after a two week absence. He came back in a big way with 1 forced fumble, 1 sack, and 14 combined tackles. The Seahawks have a quick turn around, with a matchup up Thursday against their bitter division rival, the San Francisco 49ers.
Baker should see several run attempts, George Kittle, and shallow crossing routes from the 49ers wide receivers. Another massive point total in week 6 is possible for the new Seattle Seahawk linebacker.
Zyon McCollum is a name not many fantasy football managers know of. He is a defensive back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he’s having a great season thus far. Last week he had 10 tackles, and this week he has had ten days to prepare for another divisional opponent.
The Buccaneers play against the New Orleans Saints and the Saints have a short week, so the Buccaneers will have a four day advantage in rest and preparation. This will benefit McCollum with more stats, and reward fantasy football managers with more points. Look for McCollum to have a great week 6 performance, and go put a FAAB bid on him right now.
Jamien Sherwood has made a name for himself this season. He has 36 tackles in 2024, and it is already a career high. He has been starting for the New York Jets at outside linebacker and picked up slack in the absence of C.J. Mosley. His fourth year is a breakout year, and also happens to be a contract year. Look for this new found success to continue as it could lead to a multi-million dollar contract.
Also the Jets offense has been horrific, and that leads to more defensive snaps for their Fantasy Football Week 6 IDPs. New York has a week 6 match against their division rival Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. Both teams have lost their last two games and are looking to change the momentum. Sherwood should have another high tackle game and possibly force a turnover. Take a look in your fantasy football leagues to see if he’s available, and if so, put a waiver on him.
NFL Week 6 IDP Matchups To Capitalize On
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New Orleans Saints - 1:00 PM ET
- Vita Vea, DL - TB
Vita Vea is a game changer for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense. In games he is in the lineup the opposing teams rushing yards take a noticeable dive. He helps free up the
linebackers behind him, and his non-stop pressure helps Tampa Bay have one of the best secondaries in the league.
He is also capable of scoring on his own, with 5 tackles and 2 sacks in his last two games. He is a force at a true nose tackle position, and must be double-teamed on most plays. Trust him in your lineups on the early week 6 slot Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Denver Broncos - 4:05 PM ET
- Cody Barton, LB - DEN
Cody Barton is filling in as best as he can for Alex Singleton, but the truth is the Broncos have elite IDPs at every level of their defense Barton doesn’t have to do heavy lifting, just do his job well. The Broncos just stomped all over a division rival they haven’t beat in this decade, and could surprise everyone by doing it again in week 6. The tides could be turning on a franchise that has been in a slump since winning Super Bowl 50.
Barton has 17 tackles in his past two games, and the former Utah product will see a heavy dose of running from the Jim Harbaugh philosophy of a run first gameplan. Barton could see 10 or more tackles this week as the Broncos look to win their fourth game in a row and have back-to-back division win weeks at The Mile High City for the first time this decade. Plug and play Barton in week 6.
Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys - 4:25 PM ET
- Brandon Joseph, DB - DET
A deep dive is presented this week, and it is focused on Brandon Joseph. Joseph is the back up to Brian Branch, and he has some big shoes to fill. The former Fighting Irish stand out made 6 tackles in his first real action last week.
In week 6, fantasy football managers should expect more. Dak Prescott looks panicked in the pocket, and will have Defensive Player of the Year candidate, Aidan Hutchinson, breathing down his neck on almost every drop back. This could lead to an errant throw which Prescott has made throughout his career.
Look for Joseph to be the beneficiary of that mistake, as Prescott has 4 interceptions and 4 fumbles in the first five games of the season. A high tackle game and an interception is the Fantasy Alarm prediction for the second year player. He has had two weeks to prepare, and the Lions should have the advantage against the Dallas Cowboys.
