After the 1 PM ET games in Week 15, it looked like Lamar Jackson was about to work his way back into the 2024 NFL MVP race. And then Josh Allen happened. He exploded for a monster performance, so much so that people are hardly even remembering the day that Jackson had.

Some are saying that Allen’s performance against the Lions has firmly solidified himself as the MVP of the NFL in 2024. But this is the world of sports. And crazier things have happened.

What we’ll do here today is analyze the live NFL MVP odds, along with some other futures odds. Plus, we’ll touch on the current NFL stat leaders and even dive into what all is involved regarding the 2024 NFL MVP voting!

MVP Odds For NFL 2024 Race

As you can see above, Allen is the clear frontrunner in the 2024 NFL MVP race. The odds listed in the graphic is the average of all the available NFL MVP odds at the various platforms around the country.

But, at Caesars Sportsbook in particular, for example, Allen is listed at -1100 odds to win the 2024 NFL MVP. Behind him is Jackson (+700), while Eagles RB Saquon Barkley has the next best odds to win MVP in the NFL at +1500.

It’s worth noting that two-time regular season NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes is listed all the way down at +15000 odds. He wasn’t having his greatest season to begin with, but now, with the latest news on the Mahomes injury, it’d be quite a surprise to see him win it this year.

  2. Derrick Henry: 1,474 Yds (254 Att, 13 TDs, 14 20+ Yds, 3 40+ Yds)

  10. Alvin Kamara: 950 Yds (228 Att, 6 TDs, 3 20+ Yds, 0 40+ Yds)

The 2024 NFL stat leaders can be seen above. It’s evident that Allen’s ability goes far beyond the numbers, as he doesn’t lead the league in passing yards or QB rushing yards. The thing that maybe stands out the most is Saquon Barkley’s stats.

He’s first in the NFL in rushing at 1,688 yards and also first in YPC at 5.9. It’s unfortunate for him that the “tush push” with QB Jalen Hurts is such a big part of the Eagles gameplan, or else Barkley would surely have more than the 11 rush touchdowns he currently has.

2024 NFL MVP Voting: How Does It Work?

We know that the NFL MVP is supposed to be given to the league’s most outstanding player. But how does the 2024 NFL MVP voting work?

Since 1957, the Associated Press (AP) has recognized the NFL's most outstanding player, selected by a panel of 50 sports journalists who cast their votes following the conclusion of the regular season. These voters, who possess expertise in the league, operate independently from the NFL and maintain a consistent presence from year to year.

Although quarterbacks predominantly receive this accolade, only two defensive players – Alan Page in 1971 and Lawrence Taylor in 1986 – and one special teams player, Mark Moseley in 1982, have been honored. Notably, Tom Brady in 2010 and Lamar Jackson in 2019 are the sole players to have achieved unanimous MVP status.
