NBA DFS Picks & Playbook For Today: 2024 Playoffs, April 23rd

Published: Apr 23, 2024
The NBA Playoffs continue Tuesday night with a three-game slate. The first game of the night is Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns taking on Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves lead this series 1-0 after a big game from Anthony Edwards in Game 1.
The night's second game is the Indiana Pacers taking on the Milwaukee Bucks. The Pacers look to get even after Damian Lillard's 35-point performance in the Game 1 Bucks win. Then to wrap up the night, Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks take on Paul George and the Clippers. After a blowout in Game 1, it will be interesting to see how the Mavs bounce back.
We have a great night of basketball ahead of us with this three-game NBA DFS main slate. Now, let's dive into the slate.

Top-Tier NBA DFS Core Plays
Luka Doncic, PG Dallas Mavericks
There isn't much to say here about Luka that you already do not know. He has the highest ceiling and floor on the slate and that's why his price is so much higher than everyone else. He had an off-shooting game going 10-26 in the first matchup but still finished with 61.75 DKP. He is not going to shoot like that in back-to-back games, and I fully expect him to return value at his high price.
Damian Lillard, PG Milwaukee Bucks
With Giannis Antetokounmpo not expected to play in this one, It is Dame time once again. Dame finished with 35 game points and 19 in the first quarter finishing with 48.5 DKP. He also had a 36% usage rate on the night which we will gladly take. It wasn't the best DFS night from him, but the matchup against the Pacers is just too good to pass up for Dame.
Anthony Edwards, SG/SF Minnesota Timberwolves
Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves blew out the Suns in Game 1. Edwards was great in Game 1 and was six turnovers away from having a monster DFS night. He still finished with 56 DKP in 36 minutes with a line of 33/9/6/2. We expect this game to be more competitive but Minnesota is still the favorite in this one. If the Timberwolves win again, it is going to be on the back of Anthony Edwards on the offensive end and his 36% usage rate.
Mid-Tier Core Plays
Kyrie Irving, PG/SG Dallas Mavericks
Kyrie did a great job playing the Robin role next to Luke in Game 1. We know how good Kyrie has been in the playoffs throughout his career and he saw a 27% usage rate in 39 minutes. He has scored at least 50 DKP in four of his past five games and looks to be more locked in than ever. He has given the Mavs even decent numbers on the defensive end of the court grabbing two steals in four of his last five. At his price of $8,300, it is hard to pass up on a guy who is putting up that kind of number.
Paul George, SG/SF Los Angeles Clippers
Paul George had the highest usage rate for the Clippers in Game 1 at 27%, but James Harden had the bigger game. Harden shot 6-11 from three and George shot 4-12, and that was the difference. With Kawhi Leonard being very questionable again tonight you essentially have to pick between Harden and George if you want a star from the Clippers. I am going to go George tonight.
Pascal Siakam, SF/PF Indiana Pacers
We finally saw Siakam play big minutes for the Pacers and it was glorious. He got up 25 shot attempts with Tyrese Haliburton taking just seven shots and posted a line of 36 points and 13 rebounds on a 32% usage rate. Without Giannis in the lineup, Siakam is just a nightmare matchup for the Bucks. Bobby Portis is just not the type of defender they need on him. Plus the pace Indiana plays with is elite, play Siakam again tonight.
Khris Middleton, SF Milwaukee Bucks
With no Giannis on the court and Middleton playing 35 minutes, I will gladly pay $7,400. He had a 23-10 double-double in game one finishing with 45 DKP. Home teams are undefeated throughout the playoffs and if that is going to be the trend in this one Khris Middleton is going to need to be a huge part of that. I am comfortable playing him tonight in a juicy matchup with the Pacers.
Bradley Beal, PG/SG Phoenix Suns
It was a great sign in Game 1 with Bradley Beal playing 37 minutes in a game that was never really close in the second half. What we didn't love was the fact that he only took 10 shots on just a 15.8% usage rate. He did dish out six assists which is nice, but I do not expect Beal to be passive like he was in the first matchup again. Plus, the price of $6,400 is too good for me to pass up tonight even in a lower game total.
Ivica Zubac, C, Los Angeles Clippers
With Zubac being priced under 6K on DraftKings he will be locked into my lineup. He dominated the Mavericks bigs in Game 1 posting a 20-15 double-double. Dallas is going to need to figure out a way to contain him on the inside, or they are going to be in trouble. But in the meantime, until Dallas shows me they can do that, I am going to roll Zubac out at his price.
P.J. Washington, PF/C, Dallas Mavericks
P.J. Washington is the only other guy outside of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic to score in double-digits in Game 1. He looks like he is the clear third option on this team. In the first matchup, Dallas liked leaning on Washington as their primary big as he played 37 minutes. Washington's price on DraftKings has me intrigued enough here to make him a core play if you want to stack the Mavs-Clippers game.
Value Tier Core Plays
Patrick Beverley, PG/SG Milwaukee Bucks
Patrick Beverley is going to play a huge part in this series as he tries to continue locking up Tyrese Haliburton. He held Haliburton to just seven shot attempts in the entire game. Bev played 37 minutes and scored 29.75 DKP which is not a great fantasy points per minute, but at his price, you will gladly take that.
Terance Mann, PG/SG Los Angeles Clippers
Terance Mann has been playing a big-time role for this Clippers team with Kawhi Leonard out. He is priced at just $4,100 on DraftKings and he played 39 minutes in Game 1 of this series. With Mann playing these many minutes he has created a very solid floor with a bit of scoring and solid rebounding. He will be one of the higher-owned players on the slate but you almost have to get to him with lack of value options on the slate.
Royce O'Neale, SF/PF Phoenix Suns
This one hinges a bit on whether Grayson Allen suits up or not with that sprained ankle, but Royce O'Neale should be in play. If Allen does not play O'Neale could be added into the starting lineup. He played 26 minutes off the bench in Game 1 and hit four three-point shots. If he sees 30 minutes tonight he should return his value at his price of just 4K.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker, SG/SF Minnesota Timberwolves
With Kyle Anderson leaving in the first five minutes of Game 1 Nickeil Alexander-Walker benefited the most from it. He played 29 minutes off the bench finishing with 35.5 DKP. NAW knocked down four three-pointers and grabbed four steals. Those numbers may not be sustainable but with him just sitting at $4K on DraftKings he should return value once if Kyle Anderson ends up being ruled out with rotations tightening up.
DFS NBA Lineup Lock Updates & Late-News Core Play Section
*Section for players we are considering “core plays” based on late-breaking news & research
- Grayson Allen is going to try and play tonight making Royce O'Neale less appealing. He will still be in play as I expect him to get 20+ minutes still, but he is not a priority.
- With Kawhi Leonard expected to play everyone outside of Zubac takes a bit of hit for the Clippers. Kawhi is in play, but I question how many minutes he will play.

Player News
Tyrese Haliburton (calf) is available for Sunday’s Game 7 against the Thunder.
Haliburton played through the injury in Indiana’s decisive Game 6 victory, and there was never much of a doubt that he’d gut it out to play in the winner-take-all Game 7.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Suns acquired Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and five future second-round picks from the Rockets in exchange for Kevin Durant.
With Durant’s time in Phoenix expected to end this summer, new Suns general manager Brian Gregory likely hoped to use this as an opportunity to add some young talent to the roster while also restocking the team’s draft capital. Sunday’s reported trade accomplished that, with Green headed to the Valley of the Sun along with Brooks and a total of six draft picks. While Green did finish this season with averages of 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.9 steals and 2.9 three-pointers per game, his inefficiency was an issue at times, especially during Houston’s first-round playoff loss to Golden State. While one would assume that he’ll be a key figure in Phoenix, the Suns still have Bradley Beal on their roster, due mainly to his no-trade clause. Green should play plenty, but sharing the ball with Beal and Devin Booker may result in decreased usage.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Rockets have acquired Kevin Durant from the Suns in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and five future second-round picks.
Expected to be on the move this summer after the Suns attempted to trade him prior to February’s deadline, Durant has been moved to one of his preferred destinations. Houston was on the list of teams reported to be on the future Hall of Fame forward’s wish list, with Miami and San Antonio being the others. Ultimately, Durant has been sent to a Rockets squad that finished second in the Western Conference this season, but offensive deficiencies were exposed in the team’s first-round loss to the Warriors. While Houston’s perimeter defense takes a hit with Brooks being included in the trade, Durant is no slouch on that end of the floor. Also, his offensive skill set is much-needed for Ime Udoka’s team.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Dario Šarić has exercised his player option for the 2025-26 season.
While Russell Westbrook decided to decline his player option and become an unrestricted free agent, Šarić made a different decision. Unsurprisingly, the veteran forward/center has picked up his option, which is worth approximately $5.4 million, and will remain with the Nuggets for the 2025-26 season. Even on the occasions when Denver was without Nikola Jokić, Saric did not do enough to merit being considered as a streamer in fantasy leagues. That’s unlikely to change next season, even if he stays healthy, as Šarić only appeared in 16 games in 2024-25.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Suns acquired Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, the tenth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and five future second-round picks for Kevin Durant.
Having spent the first six seasons of his NBA career in Memphis, Brooks played one season for the Rockets before being included in Sunday’s reported transaction. Known more for his defense and ability to be an irritant to opposing teams, the veteran forward made 75 starts for Houston in 2024-25. In those outings, Brooks averaged 14.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 2.5 three-pointers per game. While he shot just over 42 percent from the field overall, Brooks’ 39.7 percent mark from three was the best of his NBA career to date. Fantasy-wise, he’s been a late-round option at best in standard leagues, and that’s unlikely to change in Phoenix. However, Brooks is joining a team that finished this season ranked 28th in defensive rating and 22nd in points allowed per game.
