ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Mavericks are optimistic Kyrie Irving (knee) will return to action by January.
Irrving tore the ACL in his left knee on March 3, ending his season. He has a player option worth $44 million next season, but Charania reported that the Mavericks would like to tear up that deal to give the point guard a three-year extension this summer. That approach would align Irving with Anthony Davis and GM Nico Harrison regarding the remaining years on their respective contracts. With Spencer Dinwiddie being a free agent this summer, whoever else is in the Mavericks’ point guard rotation may have higher value to begin the season due to Irving’s injury.
The Mavericks announced Wednesday that Kyrie Irving (knee) underwent knee surgery to repair his torn ACL.
Irving tore the ACL in his left knee during a March 3 game against the Kings, ending his 2024-25 season. According to the team, the procedure to repair the torn ligament took place on Wednesday and was successful. A timeline for a return to basketball remains unknown, and complicating Irving’s situation is that he can be a free agent this summer. Fantasy managers should operate under the assumption that he will not be ready when the 2025-26 season begins in October.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports Kyrie Irving will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
Irving injured his knee in the first quarter of Monday night’s game against the Kings. The 32-year-old point guard was helped to the locker room as he was unable to put any weight on his left leg. The torn ACL for Irving is just another in a long line of injuries for the Mavericks this season as Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively III and Daniel Gafford are also sidelined. With Irving out, Spencer Dinwiddie and Max Christie should be added in most leagues and Jaden Hardy will see additional minutes.
Kyrie Irving (knee) will not return to Monday’s game against the Kings.
Irving injured his left knee with a little under three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Diagnosed with a sprained right knee, he will not return. Jaden Hardy will play more rotation minutes for the Mavericks, who were already without PJ Washington, Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II. If Irving misses time, Hardy and Max Christie will be worth adding.
