MLB DFS Picks & Playbook For Today’s Games: Wednesday, June 12th

Published: Jun 12, 2024
Welcome to Wednesday! We're following up on a great day yesterday with another great Paul Skenes outing, which is always fun, and some Los Angeles Dodger domination with homers from each of the top five batters in their lineup. Plenty more is in store for us today, including building some more winning MLB DFS lineups!
There are plenty of early games to keep you busy while we get dialed in for the 8-game main slate this evening getting underway at 7:10 PM ET on both DraftKings and FanDuel.
Will the Dodgers and Yankees continue the huge offensive days from yesterday? Will we get some 10+ strikeout outings from anyone? We will see and hopefully be on the right side of those questions, so let’s just jump right into today’s MLB DFS Playbook and my favorite MLB DFS picks of the day.

MLB Weather Today, 6/12
The weather looks clear for us today.
MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
While I think there are some guys that provide some upside on the pitching end, a lot of them come with plenty of risk as well. Normally, I have some honorable mentions that are close to my favorites that I like, but today, my favorites are quite a bit above the others, with Sonny Gray and Bryce Miller being the best play for me but David Peterson being a good, cheap pivot.
On the offensive side, some of my favorite lineups to target today include the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Kansas City Royals.
Recommended MLB DFS Starting Pitchers
Top Options For Strikeouts
- Sonny Gray vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
- Nick Pivetta vs. Philadelphia Phillies
- Tanner Bibee vs. Cincinnati Reds
- Nick Lodolo vs. Cleveland Guardians
Best Odds For A Win
- Bryce Miller vs. Chicago White Sox
- Sonny Gray vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
- David Peterson vs. Miami Marlins
- Walker Buehler vs. Texas Rangers
Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Sonny Gray, St. Louis Cardinals
Sonny Gray is rightfully the top-priced pitcher on the slate today. His last outing wasn’t exactly what you wanted against Colorado, only making it 4.2 innings and striking out 5, but that is looking like an outlier for his season so far.
Sonny Gray has been dominant all season, and with a good matchup against the Pirates today, it is very unlikely he will not provide another great outing. I am absolutely willing to pay the price to get him in my lineup today.
Bryce Miller, Seattle Mariners
We were in on Bryan Woo yesterday until he got scratched, but I am jumping right back into the Mariner’s pitching against the White Sox today. Bryce Miller has had some ups and downs this season but has, for the most part, been pitching very well.
We have seen a couple of 1-strikeout games from him, but we have also seen three starts with 9 or more strikeouts. I think the higher end is far more likely against the White Sox today, and I think we could get a great performance out of him today.
David Peterson, New York Mets
David Peterson is clearly a big step down from the other two, but I think if you really want to go with a cheap pitcher today, David Peterson provides some decent upside at a very low price.
He only has 2 starts this season and hasn’t passed the 3-strikeout mark yet, but he still made it 6.2 innings in his last outing, giving up only 2 earned runs against the Nationals. The Marlins provide him a decent chance to get another quality start and hopefully rack up some more strikeouts, and I am absolutely willing to take a shot at him at this price.
Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
- New York Yankees vs. Daniel Lynch
- Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Jose Soriano
- St. Louis Cardinals vs. Bailey Falter
- Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Jon Gray
Core MLB DFS Hitters
*Note: Will Be Updated As Official Starting Lineups Are Released
Freddie Freeman, 1B Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers put on a performance yesterday, and Freeman was a big part of that with 3 hits and a homer. He has a 1.154 OPS over his last 10 games, along with 3 homers.
Jon Gray is a better pitcher than Dane Dunning, but he isn’t keeping me away from the Dodgers again in this spot. I am likely looking to stack multiple Dodgers (as you can afford it), but I am trying extra hard to find a way to at least get Freddie Freeman in my lineup today.
Andres Gimenez, 2B Cleveland Guardians
Andres Gimenez is in a bit of a home run draught but has still been hitting the ball quite well. He doesn’t need the homers to provide plenty of value either, with such a high batting average and providing speed as well.
This is a spot where you could see him get some power, too. Facing Nick Lodolo, Gimenez is a better hitter against lefties, and it is in the best home run park in all of baseball in Cincinnati. I think this is a great spot to target Gimenez to have a big day. This is also a great spot for Jose Ramirez, but that is a little more obvious, and he is much more expensive.
Francisco Lindor, SS New York Mets
Sure, Lindor is 0 for 9 in his last two games, but before that, he had a stretch of 18 games where he went hitless only twice, had 9 multi-hit games, and slashed .355/.410/.566. He also hits lefties best, so this should be a good matchup for him to get back on track with an .855 OPS against lefties this season.
Juan Soto & Aaron Judge, OF New York Yankees
There probably isn’t much I need to say about these two. Today, they face Dan Altavilla, the opener, with Daniel Lynch set to follow. This should be a great matchup for them to continue doing plenty of damage.
They are both hitting out of this world and if you can find a way to put both into your lineup, it is a pretty great move. However, that can be difficult, so take your pick of who you like better today as they are the only two qualified hitters with an OPS over 1.000 right now, and you really can’t go wrong with either one.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
Endy Rodriguez (finger) had his splint removed this week.
Rodriguez suffered a lacerated right index finger on April 14th. Now that he is out of his splint, he “is playing catch and doing a slightly modified swing.” Once he can progress to taking full swings, we’ll have a better sense of the timeline for his return.
