This slate has tons of options for pitching, and a handful of games with possible weather concerns. Zac Gallen is making his return from the IL in a great matchup against Oakland, but without knowing how many pitches to expect from him, it is difficult to roster him with much confidence.

Miami Marlins vs Philadelphia Phillies

There’s a small chance of rain but nothing significant.

San Diego Padres vs Boston Red Sox

Rain showers are in the area but this game should be fine.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs Atlanta Braves

There is a chance this game has a late start or sees some kind of delay with heavy downpours in the area.

Cleveland Guardians vs Kansas City Royals

Another game with downpours in the area.

 

 

MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

It feels like you almost cannot go wrong at the pitcher position today. A case can be made for most of the arms on this slate so I found myself making multiple lineups with different combinations.. Zac Gallen is returning in a great matchup but I am completely fading him in the event he is limited.

Offensively, my favorite stack is going to be the Phillies, even while they are missing such bats as Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. Framber Valdez is coming off a great game where he shut down the Orioles, but we have seen the Mets do a lot of damage to southpaws, and the Diamondbacks are matched up against a lefty so both of those offenses make a lot of sense today.

Max Fried, Atlanta Braves

Max Fried is in an interesting spot against the PIrates who rank in the middle of the league in most offensive categories against left-handed pitching while holding the third-highest strikeout rate at 25.8%. Fried has an 8 K/9 on the season which isn’t overly impressive, but he did have a 13-strikeout game against the Red Sox so this could be another ceiling strikeout game. His win equity is a bit diminished with Paul Skenes on the other side of this matchup but Fried has been solid all season, with a 3.00 ERA and 1.07 WHIP on the year.

Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies

Aaron Nola draws one of the best matchups on the board against the struggling Miami Marlins. They have been one of our favorite punching bags this season while they rank in the bottom five in nearly every offensive category against right-handed pitching. Nola has had six strikeouts in his last two games and has seen the seventh inning in three of his previous five games and should be a popular play on this slate.

Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Braves are a difficult matchup for Paul Skenes but he has shown his talent is legit and he’s a far better pitcher than his price tag suggests. He’s had at least eight strikeouts in four of his last five starts and has allowed two total runs over his last 19.1 innings. Atlanta holds the eighth-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching at 23.8% and Skenes should be considered for tournaments. 

Jake Irvin, Washington Nationals

Jake Irvin is in a great spot here against the Rays who sit in the bottom ten in most offensive categories against right-handed pitching. He had a bad outing against the Diamondbacks but recovered nicely with a 10-strikeout performance against the Rockies. He’s had a little trouble with walks lately and has given up a home run in three straight games but Tampa’s offense has not been intimidating this season. Jose Siri hit two home runs on Friday but as long as Irvin keeps the ball in the yard, he should be fine here at a very fair price tag.

Ketel Marte, 2B, Arizona Diamondbacks

Oakland is starting lefty Hogan Harris which immediately puts Ketel Marte at the top of the list of favorite hitters to use. He’s been a core player all year and for good reason, as he’s hitting .321 with a 1.079 OPS and .375 ISO against this split. Marte has three multi-hit games and two home runs over his last five games.

Francisco Lindor, SS, New York Mets

Francisco Lindor is in a great spot here against Framber Valdez. While Valdez is not usually a pitcher we target, Lindor is hitting .299 with a .910 OPS and .247 ISO against left-handed pitchers this season. He’s had three straight multi-hit games, with four extra-base hits, two steals, and a home run over his last five games. The Mets rank near the top against lefties and Lindor should be a part of any Mets stack today.

Rafael Devers, 3B, Boston Red Sox

Rafael Devers is on fire right now and even though Michael King is a talented pitcher, Devers has been way too good. He’s had hits in five straight games and has hit a home run in three straight. We’ve seen him have a five-game home run streak earlier in the season and I have no issue playing him while he’s crushing the ball. He has a monstrous .341 ISO against right-handed pitchers and Fenway is a favorable park.

Brandon Marsh, OF, Philadelphia Phillies

Brandon Marsh should see a lot more playing time with Kyle Schwarber injured. Over his last 10 games, he’s hitting .323 with a .884 OPS and a home run. He’s in a great matchup against Roddery Munoz who has only thrown 34 innings but has allowed a .453 wOBA,  .714 SLG, and nine home runs to left-handed hitters.
