Our MLB Best Bets Today start with a showdown between the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox. Garrett Crochet faces his old team for the first time this afternoon since the offseason trade.
We’ll also dive into an AL West battle between the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers for our second round of MLB predictions. Check out the MLB picks, props, and bets to make as you enjoy Sunday’s baseball action.
Red Sox vs. White Sox Predictions: Sunday, April 13th
Garrett Crochet entered this season with plenty of hype after being traded to the Boston Red Sox. The hard-throwing southpaw is backing it up so far. Crochet has a 1.45 ERA through three starts and is currently the betting favorite for AL Cy Young. The Red Sox also just gave him a six-year, $170 million contract extension.
Let’s back Crochet to anchor a Boston victory on the road against the Chicago White Sox today. This will be Crochet’s first start back in Chi-town against his old squad. Maybe there are some pre-game jitters, but the left-hander had a 3.30 ERA across 17 starts in this ballpark last year.
Besides all of the storylines, this matchup is a very favorable one for Crochet. The White Sox have a league-worst .263 wOBA this season with a .199 batting average (29th), and 70 wRC+ (28th). The offense is terrible once again, averaging only 2.9 runs per game – which is dead last in the MLB.
As Crochet does his thing, let’s bank on some run support from the Boston lineup. Rookie Shane Smith makes his third start for Chicago. He’s been solid so far, allowing just two runs over 11.2 innings in his first two starts. Yet, he also faced a pair of underperforming offenses in the Twins and Guardians.
The competition ramps up a bit here for Smith. The Red Sox are averaging 5.1 runs per game this season and have exploded for multiple big run totals already. The offense has slumped a bit recently, but a matchup against the White Sox is the perfect time to wake up.

Rangers vs. Mariners Predictions: Sunday, April 13th
Logan Gilbert entered this season as a potential AL Cy Young contender and he’s backing up the hype so far. The Seattle Mariners right-hander has a 2.55 ERA, 0.62 WHIP, and 25:3 K:BB ratio through his first three starts. Gilbert is coming off an excellent 2024 campaign that included a 3.23 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and a career-best 27.4% K rate.
Gilbert should keep it going in a favorable spot at home tonight. Last year, Gilbert had a 2.49 ERA in 16 home starts compared to a 3.94 ERA on the road. He was clearly more comfortable when pitching in Seattle and this will be his fourth straight home start to begin the season.
As for the matchup, the Rangers have struggled against right-handed pitching with just a .269 wOBA (28th in MLB), .197 batting average (30th), and 6.2% walk rate (29th) in the split thus far. Besides a 14-run outburst in Cincinnati two weeks ago, Texas is averaging just 2.6 runs in their 12 other games.
At home, Gilbert can handle the underperforming lineup. He boasts an impressive 2.59 ERA across 13 career starts against the Rangers, including a 1.74 ERA last year in three outings vs. the divisional foes.
On the other side, Nathan Eovaldi would normally be a pitcher to trust – but not today. The Rangers’ righty has a good 2.29 ERA through three starts, but his 3.72 xERA is a tad worrisome. As good as Eovalid can be at times, he still had a 3.80 ERA last year with a 4.01 ERA on the road.
Eovaldi, notably, has some terrible numbers against these AL West rivals. The right-hander has a 5.46 ERA in 11 career starts vs. the Mariners and a 7.25 ERA in five career outings in Seattle. Yikes! Eovaldi faced the M’s once last year and coughed up four runs across three innings.
The Mariners are about league-average this season against right-handed pitching themselves. It’s not exactly an offense to back, but we’re fading Eovaldi more than anything on that side. Add in Gilbert’s strong track record and Seattle is the way to go for the full game and first five innings.
