Cardinals vs. Braves Predictions: Monday, April 21st
It’s a cross divisional matchup in the National League tonight as the Cardinals and Braves start a brand-new series! This one is interesting from many angles, but I am interested in the pitching first and foremost between Spencer Schwellenbach and Erick Fedde. Both pitchers play a similar game as they aren’t strikeout guys but rather pitch to contact and while that normally works out for them well, I have my concerns tonight.
Schwellenbach has just 22 strikeouts over 24.2 innings pitched and that number is truthfully inflated from one start against the Marlins who are terrible against everyone. Outside of that game he has 12 Ks in 18.2 innings pitched and has given up 13 hits in his last 2 outings. This could land him in hot water as the Cardinals are 2nd in MLB in BABIP at .317.
Fedde for the Cardinals is in a similar predicament as he has punched out just 10 batters over 21 innings pitched, and the Braves are 10th in BABIP against righties at just under .300. These stats are going to lead to hits early in the game and seeing as the 1st 5 innings prop is a wager, I look at often I am going to take the over of 4.5 runs to start off the game.
I also think the Cardinals get after Schwellenbach today as he’s trending up in the hits against category due to his inability to consistently get strikeouts. It’s a little higher than I would like but the line value at plus money makes it a worthy risk so give me the over on the Braves pitcher on hits allowed at 5.5 today.
- Expert Cardinals vs. Braves Picks:
- St. Louis vs. Atlanta Over 4.5 Runs 1st 5 Innings (-110 on DraftKings)
- Spencer Schwellenbach (ATL) Over 5.5 Hits Allowed (+115 on DraftKings)
Brewers vs. Giants Predictions: Monday, April 21st
The Brewers begin a new series out in the Bay Area tonight against the Giants and its looking like a doozy of a matchup for the road team. Milwaukee has been nails on the road so far this season on offense scoring 5.89 runs per game which is good enough for 2nd most in MLB. They’ve also been very disciplined at the plate against lefties this season with just a 22.7% K-rate and have a .297 team BABIP as well.
Those stats put Giants starter Robbie Ray in a tough spot today as he’s an average pitcher at best but against a team that is hitting lefties well, he loses any kind of advantage he may have had in the splits. Ray’s stats overall aren’t good or bad with a 4.19 ERA and 1.55 WHIP but against this offense coming into town it’s going to be bad.
That leads us into our wagers in this game and let’s start by stating that I fully believe the Brewers win this one outright. They are underdogs and that’s fair given the Giants record of home play and the fact that they are already +30 in run differential, but I like the Brewers tonight to upset.
The next wager is a player prop and it's on a guy who is destroying left-handed pitching this season so far. That player would be Jackson Chourio who is hitting .324 with a 1.000 OPS in 37 plate appearances against southpaws this young season. His line of hits/runs/RBIs stands at 1.5 for tonight and I like him to go over that as he has in 13 games this season.
- Expert Brewers vs. Giants Picks:
- Milwaukee Money Line (+115 on DraftKings)
- Jackson Chourio (MIL) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-130 on DraftKings)
Best MLB Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 4/21
- Toronto Blue Jays vs. Houston Astros Under 7.5 Runs (-115 on DraftKings)
- Fernando Tatis (SD) Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (+110 on DraftKings)
- Aaron Nola (PHI) Over 5.5 Hits Allowed (+120 on BetMGM)
