Monday’s MLB slate features just eight games, but all with a start of 6:40pm ET or later. But even with the late start, we want to attack some of these pitching props early so the Vegas odds and lines don’t change too dramatically against our favor.

Tarik Skubal, Tylor Megill and even Matt Waldron offer us a really nice opportunity to chase some strikeouts, and then that Houston Astros vs. St. Louis Cardinals game looks like it should afford us some strong game betting opportunities.

MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 6/3

Last week didn’t exactly wrap up for us on the right foot. We dealt with the Zac Gallen injury on Thursday which wiped out a few wins for us and then Friday’s MLB predictions were a little up and down as the Texas Rangers bats and other superstars like Shohei Ohtani failed to produce at the level we expected. It’s time to get everything back on-track with a strong start here on Monday!

  • Friday’s Record: 3-7
  • Season Record: 178-159-4

Mets vs. Nationals Prediction: Monday, June 3

If you happened to catch this week’s fantasy baseball waiver wire, you would have seen just how bullish I am on Mets starter Tylor Megill. The team overall is in trouble, but Megill has looked strong in his return from injury, allowing just two earned runs over his last 12 innings (two starts) with 16 strikeouts to just three walks. And one of these starts was a seven-inning shutout of the Los Angeles Dodgers

I expect a strong effort from him against a team that has been striking out 25-percent of the time over the past week and has just a .298 wOBA with little to no power against righthanded pitching. On the other side, the Mets have been better since the big roster shake-up last week, posting a .308 wOBA with a .161 ISO. They don’t strike out much against southpaws and they’ve been putting the ball in-play a lot more.

I expect the Mets to work over Gore a little here but in the early innings and give us just enough to walk away with these MLB best bets cashing.

Tigers vs. Rangers Prediction: Monday, June 3

As much as we normally fear these Texas bats, they actually have the seventh-lowest wOBA (.290) against lefthanded pitching and that comes with a near-23-percent K-rate and a very soft .118 ISO. Skubal may have hit a recent bump in the road against the Royals a couple of starts ago, but he’s allowed two or fewer runs in nine of his 11 starts and he’s post seven or more strikeouts five time this season. Six seems to be his benchmark, but we love the over for him in today’s MLB picks.

The Rangers are throwing Nathan Eovaldi, but we’re liking the Tigers bats anyway. The Detroit lineup hasn’t been lighting it up lately, but Eovaldi is still working his way back from injury. He went only three innings his last time out, throwing just 37 pitches and allowing two runs, so we expect him to still be building back up. He’s working on his command and control still and I just don’t expect him to have his best stuff today.

Cardinals vs. Astros Prediction: Monday, June 3

Despite Kyle Gibson’s better-than-expected season so far, I’m banking on some familiarity here as the Astros look to continue their winning ways at home. In fact, the Astros lead the league in wOBA at home this season (.349) and they’re doing it with strong power (.191 ISO) and very few strikeouts (only 18-percent K-rate).

While Gibson has only allowed more than two earned runs just twice this season, the Astros just finished a home stand and have been well-rested. They should jump on him nice and early. As for Justin Verlander on the mound, we know what he’s capable of doing. The Cardinals bats have been soft all year but they actually have a .314 wOBA against righthanded pitching this season.

The Astros should own that early lead, but the Cardinals should be able to plate a couple of runs over the course of the game to help us cash the over. Let’s just look for the Astros to do most of the damage to round out our MLB predictions today.
