MLB Best Bets & Prop Bets For Today: Thursday, April 18

We have a smaller slate in baseball this Thursday, but that means even more time to get under the microscope to find the edge for MLB picks. In today’s article, I have 4 wagers set to roll – from a moneyline and team total to a pair of player props! Check out the rationale and if you agree with me, make sure to tail, and good luck!

Rangers vs. Tigers Prediction Today, 4/18

Today we have another potential star making his debut in Jack Leiter, and while all debuts are not amazing, I have a feeling this one will go well for Texas. The Tigers offense is just awful, scoring a measly 3.56 runs per game this season and going against a pitcher with talent but no real tape could be problematic for them. They also have Kenta Maeda pitching for them, which is not ideal as his 3 starts have all been lackluster and his ERA on the season is 6! 

With that information out there, I have a few wagers for this game. The first is the Rangers moneyline; they are a superior team, and the odds are very fair across many sportsbooks. The second wager is going to be attacking the Tigers batters that strikeout 9.5 times per game. This may be the only time that Leiter’s K prop is 4.5, so I want to make that splash early and take that over with the first of today’s expert MLB predictions!

 

 

 

Marlins vs. Cubs Prediction Today, 4/18

While it may be early in the season and the sample sizes are small, I am really digging what the Cubs are putting together, in particular on offense. In the 6 home games they’ve played this season, they are scoring 7.33 runs per game – the most in MLB by a decent margin. I expect those numbers to hold steady again tonight too as the Marlins present a prime matchup. 

AJ Puk is set to start for Miami tonight and he’s had a tough go of it with an ERA of 5.91 through 3 starts and a WHIP of 2.44. Those are horrible numbers and considering the Cubs are hitting lefties as well as anyone, I think the team total for the Cubs of 4.5 is low. Considering you can get that wager at plus money, it’s a shoo-in to be added to my MLB predictions today! 

I am also going to add more MLB props for this contest too as the Cubs offense should feast. I am looking at Christopher Morel. Morel has been hitting in the 4-hole for the Cubs much of the season and his line on Hits+Runs+RBIs is a juicy one at 1.5 with good value on the odds. He has gone over this number in 4 of 6 home games this season, so let’s run it back and make some money!
