MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 7/07
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction
In a matchup of two of the most disappointing offenses in the sport this season I am already looking towards an under to wager on but what’s the best way to attack? It seems like the early game script is good as Jose Berrios and George Kirby are on the mounds for their teams and they’ve been had a great summer so far on the bump. This is very true with Kirby as he’s pitched 37.1 innings since early June and allowed just 8 earned runs. With that out there I will take the under on the 1st 5 innings to kick things off.
Now let’s dip the toe into the player props for the matchup and with each team having very different trends in the strikeout department let’s bet on the K props for Kirby and Berrios. The Mariners have the highest strikeout rate in MLB right now around 28% so Berrios is immediately in a great spot. He’s struggled to get over 5.5 Ks lately but games against Houston, Cleveland and Baltimore will do that to a pitcher, I have confidence it’s a get right game for him today.
Lastly we have George Kirby who is pitching very well but the Blue Jays don’t strikeout much at all at a rate of just 19.8%, the 5th lowest mark in MLB. Kirby overall has had trouble getting to 6 strikeouts this season going under in 6 of his last 9 starts. With a disciplined team like the Blue Jays that hits righties well expect Kirby to fall short of his mark today.
- Blue Jays & Mariners 1st 5 Innings Under 4.5 Runs (-140)
- Jose Berrios (TOR) Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-105)
- George Kirby (SEA) Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-125)
Baltimore Orioles vs. Oakland Athletics Prediction, 7/7
Not exactly going out on a limb here but after getting thumped yesterday by the A’s I fully expect the Orioles to respond in big time fashion and blow out Oakland. Grayson Rodriguez is the first piece to the puzzle as he holds a 3.45 ERA and is grabbing nearly a strikeout per inning. The Athletics also have the 2nd highest strikeout rate in MLB at 26% so he is set up to succeed. The K prop number of 6.5 is a little high but given the matchup and juice many are expecting him to go over and I agree with them.
On top of that we are taking the Orioles to win the game of course but since the Money Line is so chalked up it will instead be the Run Line we wager on today of -1.5 at much better juice. Baltimore is 50-39 ATS this season so they have a great track record of covering the spread.
Finally its time to pick a bat for the Orioles in the player prop department and to be honest you could pick anyone in the top 6 of the lineup but I am going to go with Gunnar Henderson today as he’s the best road bat the O’s have with a .296 average and OPS over 1.015. He’s sitting at 1.5 on the total bases and for me that’s a slam dunk over.
- Baltimore Orioles Run Line -1.5 (-110)
- Grayson Rodriguez (BAL) Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-130)
- Gunnar Henderson (BAL) Over 1.5 Total Bases (-115)
ADDITIONAL BEST BETS FOR 7/7
- Kansas City Royals Run Line -1.5 (-105)
- Kansas City Royals Over 5.5 Total Runs (-120)
- Texas Rangers Money Line (-130)
- Jose Soriano (LAA) Over 4.5 Hits Allowed (-120)
- Dallas Keuchel (MIL) Under 3.5 Strikeouts (-150)
