Houston Astros vs. Minnesota Twins Prediction Today, July 6th
Don’t look now but the Houston Astros might finally be back! Heading into today’s game they have won 13 of their last 15 games and have put themselves over .500 and will probably not go back the way they are playing. Inside the last 15 games they’ve scored 7 runs per game, yes 7 and the pitching has really picked up including the play of Hunter Brown. Brown will start tonight for Houston and between the streak and him the Astros winning at plus money is a juicy wager.
Brown has been fantastic since the start of June making 6 starts while pitching 37 innings in the process, he has had at least a quality start of 6 innings pitched in every single game too. During these starts he has 41 strikeouts and an ERA below 1.10, amazing stuff. For that reason in addition to taking the Astros Money Line I will hit on him going over 17.5 outs recorded as its been a mortal lock lately.
Then there’s Joe Ryan who everybody loves and I normally do but no today! He’s overall a big strikeout guy but as his prop sits at 5.5 Ks today I can’t help but want to fade that number as the Astros are one of the most discipled teams in MLB at just a 18% K-rate this season. Give me Ryan to go under 5.5 today because of that and the fact that he’s only topped it in 2 of his last 6 starts.
Expert Astros vs. Twins Picks
- Houston Astros Money Line (+110 DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Hunter Brown (HOU) Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-135 DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Joe Ryan (MIN) Under 5.5 Strikeouts (+130 DraftKings Sportsbook)
New York Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction Today, July 6th
It was great to see the offensive explosion from the Pirates yesterday as they ran out of fireworks at the ballpark, they scored so many homers but today I fear will be a different story for them. David Peterson is on the mound for the Mets and while he’s no world beater the Pirates really struggle hitting lefties. In fact, they have 4 regular players that hit under .200 against the southpaws this season between Oneil Cruz, Andrew McCutchen, Rowdy Tellez and Jack Suwinski! That makes me think the offense is going to really struggle today and that the Mets have a big leg up to win on the Money Line today and the Pirates to struggle in the first 5 innings and go under that runs prop.
Now let’s dive into the player props as the Mets are looking to bash up Bailey Falter who had a brutal June allowing 30 hits in 24 innings pitched and 15 earned runs for an ERA of 5.63. Francisco Lindor is the name that immediately stands out for me with his .290 average against lefties this season and .906 OPS! It looks like he will be batting leadoff today as well which is great to maximize chances against Falter. The Mets offense should bounce back and Lindor is my bet to be the reason why so let’s go over on his hits, runs, RBIs prop today and watch the magic happen.
Expert Mets vs. Pirates Picks
- New York Mets Money Line (-130 DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Pirates Team Total Runs 1st 5 Innings Under 2.5 (-140 DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Francisco Lindor (NYM) Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBI (+110 DraftKings Sportsbook)
Kansas City Royals vs Colorado Rockies Prediction, Today July 6th
After the Rockies took the first game of the series last night I couldn’t help but wonder how the Royals only scored 2 runs at Coors Field but today is a new day for them to get right and I want all in on them to do so! The pitching matchup is a good one for KC as Seth Lugo will go against Austin Gomber and while Gomber has been decent this season he is sliding since early June with an ERA over 9 and 44 hits allowed over 29 innings pitched. In simple terms he’s getting blown up and against these Royals it’s a going to be a bad time as many of their bats hit the lefties well. Give me the Royals Money Line chalk to kick us off here.
Let’s talk about Seth Lugo more now as he’s been nothing short of amazing this year at 11-2 with a 2.17 ERA. He is matched up against one of the most strikeout happy teams in the league tonight as the Rockies are 3rd highest in strikeout rate and his prop line is just 6.5 Ks. That number is higher than average for him but given that he has 26 strikeouts in the last 18.2 innings pitched I feel like it’s a worthy wager on the over at plus money. The other prop I love today is on Bobby Witt who is destroying lefties in average this season with 20 hits in just 59 at bats and an OPS of .880 overall. Now his line is inflated for Coors Field at 3.5 in hits/runs/RBIs but he will have at least 2 hits tonight and with the lineups of bombers around him he should score some runs too so let’s take the inflation to the face and cash this prop anyways!
Expert Royals vs. Rockies Picks
- Kansas City Royals ML (-175 DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Seth Lugo (KC) Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+125 DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Bobby Witt (KC) Over 3.5 Hits/Runs/RBI (+110 DraftKings Sportsbook)
Player News
Eddie Rosario has elected free agency.
Rosario refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett over the weekend and will head to free agency instead. There’s a decent chance he winds up back with Atlanta on a brand-new minor league deal. The 33-year-old journeyman outfielder has gotten into five games this season between Los Angeles and Atlanta.
Mike Trout (knee) is scheduled to run on an Alter G (zero gravity) treadmill on Monday.
Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters they’ll see how Trout fares before making a decision on his next steps. The 33-year-old generation superstar remains without a definitive return timetable after hitting the injured list back on May 2 with a bone bruise in his left knee.
Rangers promoted OF prospect Alejandro Osuna to Triple-A.
Osuna checked in at 499th overall in Rotoworld’s dynasty rankings back on Opening Day after an impressive showing in spring training. The 22-year-old earns a promotion to the doorstep of the majors hitting .284/.363/.409 with 10 extra-base hits and seven steals in 31 games this season for Double-A Frisco. He doesn’t project as a high-upside fantasy contributor, but he does a little bit of everything well and should be able to carve out a role at the highest level someday.
Justin Martinez (shoulder) will face hitters on Wednesday in a live batting practice session.
There’s an outside chance Martinez is ready to return from the injured list later this week when first eligible, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. The hard-throwing 23-year-old reliever is making steady progress and should be ready to rejoin Arizona’s high leverage mix at some point in the coming days.
Logan Gilbert (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
It’ll be Gilbert’s first bullpen session since landing on the injured list back on April 26 with a flexor strain in his right elbow. The 28-year-old fantasy ace will likely require a couple minor league rehab outings to get back up to speed, but it looks like there’s a decent chance he’s back in Seattle’s rotation at some point in June.
DJ LeMahieu (calf) was not activated prior to Monday’s game against the Mariners.
LeMahieu joined the Yankees in Seattle as they continue their West Coast trip, but he hasn’t been officially activated yet. That figures to happen prior to Tuesday’s contest. The 36-year-old will make his season debut this week after missing the first six-plus weeks of the year recovering from a calf injury.
