MLB Picks, Predictions, & Best Bets Today, May 27th

We are putting almost all of last week behind us. We got back on-track somewhat during Friday’s slate, but would have fared even better had we not gotten a postponement from that Cubs vs. Cardinals game.

Still, we won more than we lost and we turned a small profit. We’re not going to play this slate heavy as, again, daytime baseball always gets a little funky, but we still have some MLB predictions and props for your daily betting needs.

  • Friday’s Record: 5-4
  • Season Record: 157-136-4
  • Bankroll: +5.63 units

*Today’s MLB picks each have their respective odds listed alongside them.

Astros vs. Mariners Prediction: Monday, May 27

You know me and daytime baseball, so I’ll start today’s MLB best bets with the one game I like the most and that’s this little evening tilt between AL West division rivals. While I like Bryce Miller as a pitcher, I like what the Astros have been doing as a team that much more. They’ve won three out of their last four series and are 11-5 over their last 16 games. Not to mention, the last time Miller faced these Astros, he allowed four runs through six innings, including a pair of home runs.

On the other side is lefty Framber Valdez and while his strikeout props are juiced up, we can sneak in with an outs-recorded prop. He only lasted 5.1 innings the last time he faced the Mariners, but Seattle is struggling mightily right now, posting just a .279 wOBA with a 27.3-percent K-rate. If Valdez can stay the course and rebound from this last start against the Angels, he should be able to give us a solid six innings.

Royals vs. Twins Prediction: Monday, May 27

Everyone loves Joe Ryan, and everyone loves Alec Marsh. But a 7.5-run game total seems way too low for me, even in a day game. The Royals bats have been white-hot lately, posting a league-leading .391 wOBA with a .223 ISO over the past week. Ryan had a nice start against a weak Nationals team his last time out, but he’s allowed at least three runs in five of the eight starts prior to it.

I’m not saying he gets roasted here, but if he allows another three runs here, the bullpen has been a little overworked lately and maybe they allow a run or two. On the other side, Marsh seems to be a fantasy favorite, but can we trust him to keep the score down against this Twins lineup that has been surprisingly strong against southpaws this season?

Despite being loaded with lefty bats, the Twins have posted a .325 wOBA with a .164 ISO and .315 BABIP against lefties this season and they should be the toughest matchup for Marsh since mid-April. Our MLB predictions don’t care who wins; just as long as there’s scoring.

Blue Jays vs. White Sox Prediction: Monday, May 27

While I would love to just take the over in this game to tack onto my MLB picks today – these teams plated a total of 11 runs the last time these pitchers squared off against each other – the Blue Jays bats just haven’t been consistent enough for me to do that.

Instead, we’ll focus on Toronto against White Sox righty Nick Nastrini who allowed eight earned runs against them during his last start. The White Sox won’t hang him out to dry for this much of a beating today, but long enough for the Jays to at least put a three-spot on the board.

Cardinals vs. Reds Prediction: Monday, May 27

The Reds lineup has been struggling throughout this season, posting a bottom-five wOBA against righties, but over the past week, the bats have woken up and we’ve seen a .324 wOBA with a .164 ISO. Now they get contact-hitting specialist Lance Lynn who may have looked good in his last start but allowed four runs in each of the previous three and not against strong lineups.

The Reds should keep this momentum rolling and get the benefit of playing at home for the holiday weekend. I’m finalizing my MLB predictions today with a game in which we should see some daytime fireworks. At least enough in the early innings.
