Tigers vs. Dodgers Predictions For MLB on ESPN, 3/27
When it comes to MLB Opening Day, fans get to enjoy the best of the best from the most part, which also applies to seeing aces on the mound. While some are injured, this matchup is perfect for those who love elite pitching.
That’s because we have a matchup of Cy Young winners from the past two seasons! For Detroit, it’s Tarik Skubal, who was last year’s American League winner, while LA’s Blake Snell won it for the National League two seasons ago. A matchup of Skubal vs. Snell also means that we have a battle of lefties.
Of course, that should also be considered when it comes to Tigers vs. Dodgers predictions, even with elite pitchers on the mound. Along with plenty of offseason moves these past several months, there’s plenty to breakdown to transition to our best bet.
Detroit Tigers: The Tale Of Tarik
It may not have been Stephen Strasburg-level, but the hype surrounding Tarik Skubal coming into the MLB was substantial. However, injuries slowed him down, which is no stranger to starting pitchers. Of course, his talent fully came to light this past season with the aforementioned Cy Young award.
He won it after posting an incredible 18-4 record with 228 strikeouts and 2.39 ERA. Perhaps the best part of that season was the fact that he got the Tigers back to the postseason as well. Now they’re right in the mix to win the AL Central this season (+270 at Caesars), which is the most up-in-the-air division this year.
Los Angeles Dodgers: The Travels Of Snell
Speaking of winning, the Dodgers are certainly no strangers to that as the deafening World Series champs. They’re the biggest division favorites when it comes to winning the NL West (-500 at Caesars), and it’s a division that Blake Snell is all too familiar with. We noted his Cy Young of two seasons ago, which came with the rival San Diego Padres.
As if that connection wasn’t enough, he was just pitching for the San Francisco Giants last year. He’s now made his way to his third California city after winning his first Cy Young across the country with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018. After a slowed season last year with just 20 appearances, he’ll be looking to return to form in LA.

Tigers vs. Dodgers Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines
With the defending champs at home for MLB Opening Day, as you’d guess, the Tigers vs. Dodgers odds at Caesars Sportsbook have LA as the clear favorite:
- Run Line: Detroit Tigers +1.5 (-160) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (+130)
- Money Line: Detroit Tigers (+130) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (-155)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 6.5 (-120) vs. Under 6.5 (+100)
Tigers vs. Dodgers Best Bet: Detroit +1.5 (-160 at Caesars Sportsbook)
While we focused primarily on the pitching matchup when discussing each team thus far, it’s one that cannot be ignored, especially on MLB Opening Day. However, what can also not be ignored is the massive amount of money spent by the Dodgers this offseason…again.
Between them and the New York Yankees, money has long been the name of the game. As you’d expect, LA continues to have the highest payroll in the MLB, most recently reported as north of $322 million. The Tigers have gotten themselves out of the bottom of the barrel in that regard, but they still can’t entice Roki Sasaki the way that the Dodgers can.
This is yet another Japanese ace added to the rotation after a similar scenario last season with Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Along with Shohei Ohtani set to return to the mound this season (not to mention Tyler Glasnow) the Dodgers are absolutely loaded. Having said all that, they can’t all be on the mound at once.
Just one of them can, and when the Tigers have Tarik Skubal toeing the rubber, they have as good a chance as any at taking down the dominant Dodgers. We’re not going quite that far, but we’re willing to pay the juice while it’s still early in the season, and you could even pair our best bet with a heavy money line favorite for a quick two-leg parlay.
Regardless of your approach, the Tigers proved that the run line was the way to go for bettors last season when they turned things around. In that regard, they had the fourth-best record in the MLB, and that didn’t fade as an underdog; they had the third-best run line record as an underdog last season as well.
It also doesn’t hurt that they beat LA in two of their three games last season, so we’ll take Detroit +1.5 (-160 at Caesars Sportsbook) as the best bet from our Tigers vs. Dodgers predictions.
Tigers vs. Dodgers Injury Report & Starting Pitchers
You’ve seen today’s starting pitchers already, and we still have them for you again, but what about Tigers vs. Dodgers injuries? In Detroit, it’s their outfield that is the concern. The recent injury to Wenceel Perez added to Parker Meadows and Matt Vierling.
In LA, there’s still another elite starting pitcher we didn’t mention - Clayton Kershaw. Injuries have been an issue for the lifetime Dodger, and he’ll be starting the 2025 season on the injured list as well.
- Detroit Tigers starting pitcher today: Tarik Skubal (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
- Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher today: Blake Snell (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
