Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series kicks off with a National League East battle between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Padres swept their Wild Card series against the Atlanta Braves to get to the ALDS.

During the regular season the Padres won the season series 8-to-5 which is what will make this playoff series all that much more interesting.

Before giving our Padres vs Dodgers predictions, lets take a look at the top storylines and pitching matchups.

Padres vs Dodgers Predictions For NL Divisional Round Game 1

The Padres swept their Wild Card round series, using Michael King and Joe Musgrove in their two games against the Braves.

In Game 1 of the ALDS we see them send out Dylan Cease who went 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts over 189.1 innings.

Cease has faced the Dodgers twice already this season, allowed four earned runs over 10.2 innings with six walks and 10 strikeouts.

For the Dodgers we see rookie Yoshinobu Yamamoto getting the Game 1 nod.

Yamamoto missed a good chunk of his rookie season with an injury but was good when healthy, going 7-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 105 strikeouts over 90.0 innings.

He's faced the Padres twice this season with no real success, getting shelled for five runs on four hits over an inning of work in his season debut and then later in April he allowed three runs on four hits over five innings.

Both of these team's offenses are very potent. The Padres have the lowest team strikeout rate in baseball, which means they make a lot of contact, drive up pitch counts and put the ball in play.

Led by Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis, the Padres also have the potential rookie of the year in Jackson Merrill and the NL Batting Champion in Luis Aarez.

The Dodgers, of course, are loaded offensively with NL MVP Shohei Ohtani at the top of the order followed by Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez.

Top to bottom, this should be a pretty fun series to watch.

San Diego Padres: Padres Pitching vs Dodgers Hitting

The Padres have one of the best if not the best bullpen in baseball. They also have strong starting pitching.

Can Dylan Cease keep the Dodgers lineup in check long enough to get to that elite bullpen where manager Mike Shildt play the matchups or will Shohei Ohtani and this elite Dodgers lineup overpower and overwhelm the Padres pitchers in this playoff series?

look like the pitcher we all saw strike out 202 hitters over 166 inning's as a rookie last year?

Los Angeles Dodgers: Ohtani's Playoff Debut.

The best player in baseball has never appeared in the postseason until tonight. Ohtani became the first ever member of the 50/50 club this season as the sure fire NL MVP hit .310 with 134 runs, 54 homers, 130 RBI and 59 stolen bases.

Ohtani tends to show up on the biggest stages, a man meant for the moment and it would only be fitting that he goes on to carry the Dodgers here tonight.

Padres vs Dodgers Starting Pitcher & Lineup

Dylan Cease, San Diego Padres

Dylan Cease went 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts over 189.1 innings.

Cease has faced the Dodgers twice already this season, allowed four earned runs over 10.2 innings with six walks and 10 strikeouts.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Los Angeles Dodgers

Yamamoto missed a good chunk of his rookie season with an injury but was good when healthy, going 7-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 105 strikeouts over 90.0 innings.

He's faced the Padres twice this season with no real success, getting shelled for five runs on four hits over an inning of work in his season debut and then later in April he allowed three runs on four hits over five innings.

Padres vs Dodgers: Shohei Ohtani to Homer (+220 on DraftKings)

For my Padres vs Dodgers pick I'm taking the home run prop for Shohei Ohtani which is set at +220 over on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Ohtani hit 54 homers during the regular season and has homered twice before off of Dylan Cease. With this being his first career playoff game, you just know he is ready to perform in the moment.
