Brewers released INF Logan Forsythe.

The 34-year-old had been with the Brewers on a minor league contract, but is now free to sign elsewhere. Forsythe recently played for Team USA in their Olympic qualifier. In 17 games at Triple-A Nashville, he was hitting .250/.483/.400 with no homers, no RBI and a 7/8 K/BB ratio in only 29 plate appearances.

Brewers signed INF Logan Forsythe to a minor league contract.

Forsythe, 34, appeared in just 12 games with the Marlins last year before going down with an oblique injury. He should make for useful infield depth at the Triple-A level.

Forsythe signed with the Phillies as a non-roster invitee Sunday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Now 33 years old, Forsythe doesn't seem to be a particularly strong candidate to break camp with the team. He's recorded a below-average batting line in three straight seasons and hit just .227/.325/.353 in 101 games for the Rangers last season while striking out a career-high 27.2 percent of the time. He'll be competing with Josh Harrison and Neil Walker for a bench spot.

Forythe (ribs) could be placed on the 60-day injured list as a maneuver to create room on the 40-man roster, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Forsythe, who hasn't played in 10 days, becomes on option as the Rangers consider alternatives that would allow them to add catcher Tim Federowicz for the final days of the season. With Jeff Mathis (back) still unavailable, Federowicz would provide roster flexibility for manager Chris Woodward.
