The NHL is officially back and what a start we had last night! We saw plenty of action between the Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers, along with the Utah Hockey Club picking up their first-ever win.

I'll be here throughout the season bringing the NHL DFS Picks and Playbook multiple times per week, along with the NHL Best Bets, which got off to a hot 2-0 start last night.

NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, October 9th

We keep things rolling with our NHL DFS picks for tonight's five-game slate, featuring some of the best centers in the league.

All five games have totals set at 6.5, so we should be in for plenty of scoring tonight. With so many elite centers on the slate, we'll certainly have to find a bit of value to get into our lineups when looking at NHL DFS projections.

NHL Pick 'Em At Sleeper Fantasy

Let's jump into some Sleeper Fantasy NHL picks for today before we head over to the DFS side of things.

Sleeper NHL Picks, Wednesday, October 9th:

Connor McDavid is the best player on the planet and capable of posting multiple points every single night. Let's keep things as simple as possible to start the NHL season and look to McDavid to start his 2024 revenge tour with multiple points.

Quinn Hughes to grab a point is also very straightforward as the Vancouver Canucks' captain sees time on their first power-play unit, which is always a plus. After 92 points in 82 games last season, Hughes will look to build on that versus a lackluster Calgary Flames' lineup.

Connor Hellebuyck More than 28.5 saves is the final one for tonight and a number he crossed all three times he played the Edmonton Oilers last season. The Oilers can bring the offensive pressure early and often and I expect Hellebuyck to be busy tonight.

Wednesday Salary Cap DFS Picks

Goalie Of The Day: Adin Hill - VGK

The Vegas Golden Knights kick off the season at home against the Colorado Avalanche, which has me very interested in Adin Hill. While the Avs still have plenty of household names such as Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar, the bottom portion of their lineup lacks some firepower.

Hill should face a decent number of shots and be firmly in a position to come away with the win. Hill is also very affordable on both FanDuel and DraftKings, which is always great for lineup construction.

Play Of The Day: Auston Matthews - TOR

The reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner gets the season started against the Montreal Canadiens, which gives the Maple Leafs a juicy 3.8 implied goal total tonight.

Considering Matthews is -145 to score a goal tonight, it's no surprise he is the NHL DFS picks play of the day. An average of 4.5 shots on goal per game last season should be the level we see him at this season, along with multi-goal potential every night.

Value Play Of The Day: Reilly Smith - NYR

Reilly Smith checks in as my favorite value play of the day with a favorable salary on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

He's expected to see time on the New York Rangers' second forward line alongside Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad, as well as time on the second power-play unit. A solid 3.3 implied team total for the Rangers should put them in a spot to score some goals.

Stack Of The Day: VAN L1/PP1 (J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser, Quinn Hughes)

The Vancouver Canucks clock in with a 3.9 implied goal total, which tops today's slate, making them a clear option to stack. While we have McDavid and the Oilers in action tonight, and Matthews and the Leafs, the Canucks are just a bit more affordable.

Miller and Boeser are on the first forward together, as well as the first power-play unit, which is quarterbacked by Hughes. Jake DeBrusk is also a viable option to add to our NHL DFS picks given his affordable salary on DraftKings.
