Welcome to our Sunday Playbook and NHL DFS picks today!
We have less than two weeks in the NHL regular season and the playoff picture is starting to be finalized. No wasting time, let's jump in!
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, April 6th
As I've noted throughout the week, it's desperation time for some teams and I love looking to some of those players to put up big performances when their teams need it most.
NHL DFS Pick'em Picks on Sleeper Fantasy
- Kirill Marchenko More Than 2.5 Shots on Goal
- Sam Reinhart More Than 2.5 Shots on Goal
- Ryan Donato More Than 0.5 Points
The Blue Jackets are in desperate need of a win after two straight losses and it's time to trust one of their young stars, Kirill Marchenko. While Zach Werenski leads the team in shots, Marchenko leads all forwards with 191 shots this season, which includes 26 in the last 10 games. Over the last two weeks, the Ottawa Senators have allowed 61.98 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the ninth-worst in the league. This is a favorable matchup for Marchenko to pile up the shots and push the offense forward.
The Florida Panthers are looking rough right now and are dealing with a ton of injuries right now. This pushes more of the offensive workload onto Sam Reinhart, who comes in with 31 shots on goal in his last 10 games. This isn't a ‘must-win’ game for the Panthers but their spot in the standings has slipped. I like the matchup versus the Detroit Red Wings, who have allowed 59.47 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 13th worst in the league.
Ryan Donato has been a bright spot for the Chicago Blackhawks this season and leads the team with 59 points in 74 games, including 10 points in his last 10 games. With a role on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, he's always in a spot to pile up the points, especially against a horrible Pittsburgh Penguins defense on the other side. Over the last two weeks, the Penguins have allowed 3.75 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fourth-worst in the league.
Sunday Salary Cap DFS Picks
Goalie Of The Day: Jakub Dobes - MTL
The Montreal Canadiens came away with a massive win yesterday and head on the road for a back-to-back versus the lowly Nashville Predators. The Habs need every point they can get at this point and I like this matchup for them.
Over the last two weeks, the Predators have scored 1.55 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the third-lowest in the league. While Dobes is a bit up and down for the Habs, he has a very friendly salary and can help us with lineup construction.
Play Of The Day: David Pastrnak - BOS
While Pasta is coming off a hat trick and we don't want to chase that box score, he has immense fantasy upside every day. The Sabres continue to struggle on defense and have allowed over 3.00 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations in the last two weeks.
Pasta is perhaps the lone bright spot for the Boston Bruins this season with 94 points in 77 games, including 12 points and 30 shots on goal in his last 10 games. He's the most expensive player on the slate but he's one of the only ones with consistent multi-point potential outside of Tage Thompson.
Value Play Of The Day: Fabian Zetterlund - OTT
The Ottawa Senators are pushing for a wild-card spot and have a very favorable matchup versus the Columbus Blue Jackets today. This points us to Fabian Zetterlund, who is skating on the first forward line and the second power-play unit.
Over the last two weeks, the Blue Jackets have allowed an insane 4.51 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league by a good margin. They are pushing for the playoffs but have been worst on defense compared to the Sharks or the Blackhawks. The Senators need points and this is the matchup for Zetterlund to add to the offense.
Stack Of The Day: BUF PP1 (Tage Thompson, JJ Peterka, Alex Tuch, Rasmus Dahlin)
For as much as I like David Pastrnak today and his individual skill, I like the other side of this game for a stack. The Buffalo Sabres are flying on offense right now and it's the spot to target on a smaller slate. Over the last two weeks, the Sabres have scored 3.94 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the best in the NHL.
Yes, the Buffalo Sabres have been leading the league over the last two weeks in scoring. Meanwhile, the Bruins' defense has been terrible in that same time and has allowed 3.65 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. The Sabres have the offense to put up some goals in a hurry against this bad defense.
