NHL DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Stacks Today: Saturday Playbook

Published: Nov 02, 2024
We have a full day of NHL action that gets started with another game in Finland, but we'll focus on the seven-game main slate tonight.
Looking at the slate overall, there are some of the worst defenses in the league all in action tonight, which should lead to plenty of scoring.
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, November 2nd
With multiple teams having implied goal totals over 3.5 tonight, stacking is going to be the key. We'll look for a strong correlation between lines and power-play units, putting ourselves in a good spot to pile up the points.
Today’s NHL DFS Slate Overview
NHL DFS Pick'em Picks on Sleeper Fantasy
- Sidney Crosby Over 1.5 Points
- Sean Monahan Over 2.5 Shots on Goal
- J.T. Miller Over 2.5 Shots on Goal
Sidney Crosby is in his 20th season and nothing seems to be slowing him down. With 12 points in 12 games played this year, things look as normal as they could be for the future Hall of Famer. With a 3.8 implied goal total, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a great matchup versus the Montreal Canadiens to pile up the goals. The Canadiens are allowing a staggering 4.24 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league.
Sean Monahan has been a bright spot for the Columbus Blue Jackets this season and comes in with 34 shots on goal through 10 games. The top-line center is also on the first power-play unit, which should provide him plenty of opportunities to rack up the shots against the Washington Capitals. After a bit of a rough game against the Winnipeg Jets yesterday, the Blue Jackets should look to bounce back tonight.
J.T. Miller and the Vancouver Canucks are coming off a game where they got pushed around by the New Jersey Devils and lost 6-0. It's a rough look for a team with playoff aspirations and they can get things going in the right direction against the lowly San Jose Sharks. He has 20 shots in nine games this season and needs to get the offensive pressure going to kick-start the offense.
Saturday Salary Cap DFS Picks
Goalie Of The Day: Kevin Lankinen - VAN
The Vancouver Canucks are massive -290 road favorites against the San Jose Sharks and are in need of a win. Two straight losses for the Canucks need to get flipped around against one of the worst teams in the league. The Sharks come in scoring a measly 1.75 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the third-lowest in the league.
Lankinen has seen 26 saves or more in five of his six starts, so there are plenty of points for him to rack up.
Play Of The Day: Filip Forsberg - NSH
Both the Nashville Predators and the Colorado Avalanche aren't off to the starts they expected, but boy oh boy, the Avalanche are a mess on defense this season. A total of 46 goals allowed in 11 games is staggering for the Avs and it presents a wealth of fantasy points for every opposing team.
Tonight, we turn to Filip Forsberg, who is one of the best goal-scorers in the league. He comes in with 9 points in 10 games this season, along with 46 shots on goal, the latter of which are the fourth-most in the league. He has a solid floor of points and access to a solid ceiling due to his own goal potential and a very weak defense on the other side.
Value Play Of The Day: Jake DeBrusk - VAN
As noted above, the Canucks are heavy favorites against the Sharks and that comes with a 3.8 implied goal total. DeBrusk has been skating on the first forward line and the second power-play unit, but could be on the second forward line tonight. Regardless, this is an elite matchup versus the Sharks, who are allowing 3.18 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the sixth-worst in the league.
Stack Of The Day: NSH L1/PP1 (Filip Forsberg, Ryan O'Reilly, Roman Josi)
The Nashville Predators have a solid 3.5 implied goal total tonight and despite their slower start to the season, this is a great spot for them. The Avalanche are a disaster on defense in the bottom five of the league in goals allowed, bottom 10 in penalty kill, and top half of the league in penalty minutes.
The Predators' power-play isn't breaking any records but extra chances for a goal-scorer like Forsberg can lead to plenty of fantasy points.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Panthers released TE Jordan Matthews.
Matthews converted to tight end a few years ago and hasn’t made much noise at the position. The change has, however, likely kept him in the league for a few more seasons. He appeared in four games with the Panthers last year but didn’t record any stats on offense. The Panthers also released or waived WR Dax Milne, C Andrew Raym, and TE Colin Granger.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
