NHL DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Stacks Today: Friday Playbook

Published: Nov 08, 2024
It's a 4-game slate tonight in the NHL and while that is on the smaller side and the ways to win are tighter, I have broken down the matchups and the top pieces to put into your lineups tonight.
There are some key injuries going around for a couple of teams and that opens up a bit of value and some line changes to keep note of.
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, November 8th
With so few options tonight, with it being just 4 games the margins are thin but luckily, I have some ways to be profitable after looking deep into this slate!
Without further ado, let's jump into tonight's slate and my NHL DFS picks!
NHL DFS Pick'em Picks On Sleeper Fantasy
- Matt Boldy Over 3.5 Shots On Goal
- Connor McMichael Over 2.5 Shots on Goal
- Cam Talbot Over 26.5 Saves
The call on Boldy here is a slam dunk as he's been a shooting machine and leads the Wild in shots this season. The Ducks also allow the most shots on goal in the NHL at 35.3 per game!
I went McMichael over Ovechkin on the prop, but I do like the Capitals a bunch tonight as the Penguins just don't play defense anymore. The line of 2.5 shots for McMichael is a great one as he's topped this number in 4 of the last 5 games and Pittsburgh allows the 2nd most shots on goal in the NHL.
Then finally we have a prop on a goaltender that is having a resurgence in Detroit with Cam Talbot who has a SV% of .929 right now and has been a rock for the Red Wings. The Maple Leafs total offense is down from years past, but they still post around 31.6 per game and without Auston Matthews they will have a harder time scoring on those chances.
NHL DFS Lineup Picks Today, 11/8
Goalie Of The Day: Lukas Dostal - ANA
At some point the bottom is going to fall out on Dostal right? Right? I have been asking this for some time, but the Ducks goaltender just keeps posting video game level numbers as the Ducks allow so many shots per game.
It seems like every single game he's over 20 saves and he will get a Wild team that played just last night so maybe they won't be as sharp? Either way Dostal is the gravy train right now and I'm going to ride it tonight.
Play Of The Day: Jack Eichel - VGK
There are a lot of tough matchups for forwards today and you may see more unders than not on the game totals today but Eichel is not dealing with the problems of the rest of the slate. Seattle is allowing nearly 30 shots on goal per game and 3.21 goals per game, both are far from league worst but not great either.
Eichel has been up and down most of the season but he has topped 20 DFS points now in 2 of the last 5 games and I don't want to miss the next one as the Kraken allow the 5th most DFS points to centers on the season.
Value Play Of The Day: Connor McMichael - WAS
All the things I wrote above in the props of the day also apply here as the Penguins defense is terrible and McMichael is having a breakout campaign for the Capitals right now. As of today he sits with 8 goals through 12 games and has scored 19+ DFS points in 4 of the last 5 games, the man is on a tear!
The price tag of 5k over on DraftKings is just way too low to ignore tonight as he has a boom type matchup as the Pens allow the most DFS points to left wingers this season and he will get big minutes on the top powerplay unit.
Stack Of The Day: VGK L1 (Mark Stone, Jack Eichel & Ivan Barbashev)
One of the best matchups on the board tonight belongs to the Golden Knights and that's why I am stacking my top play of the day Jack Eichel with his linemates.
As an added bonus they are mostly on the top power play unit as well, should be a great showing from this group tonight.

Player News
Dolphins signed No. 13 overall pick DT Kenneth Grant to a four-year contract.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Grant will sign his contract today. The former Michigan defensive tackle is expected to fill a major void left by Christian Wilkins, who left for the Raiders in the 2024 offseason. Grant totaled 32 tackles, three sacks, and seven TFLs in his final season at Michigan and excelled at stopping the run while also generating 27 pressures in his final season, per PFF.
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
