NHL DFS Picks & Playbook Today, 4/9
DFS NHL Lineup Construction Thoughts
Ensure that you do not disregard our remarkable assortment of 13 games, featuring exceptional players in favorable matchups. While it is impossible to resist the allure of Nikita Kucherov and Nathan MacKinnon, there are also remarkable value options that deserve your consideration.
Goalies hold significant importance in shaping our lineups, so exercise prudence when making your selections. Whether you opt for a top-tier goalie or a more budget-friendly option, bear in mind that goalies can be highly unpredictable.
NHL DFS Goalie Picks
Best Value Goalies
- Philipp Grubauer vs. Arizona Coyotes
- Alex Lyon vs. Washington Capitals
- Frederik Andersen vs. Boston Bruins
Best Odds for a Win
- Andrei Vasilevskiy vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
- Sergei Bobrovsky vs. Ottawa Senators
- Cam Talbot vs. Anaheim Ducks
NHL DFS Lineups: Best Goalies To Use
Sergei Bobrovsky, G, Florida Panthers
No disrespect to Cam Talbot, but I’d much rather pay up for Sergei Bobrovsky than him. The Ottawa Senators love to shoot the puck, but they can’t score goals. Bobrovsky is going to see a nice volume of shots AND has an excellent chance of picking up the win. I like all of that put together, making him my top cash game goalie.
Andrei Vasilevskiy, G, Tampa Bay Lightning
I don’t really need to explain why Andrei Vasilevskiy on home ice against Columbus is a good idea. His team will no doubt provide him with more than enough goal support, so even if he does allow a goal or two, he will still be able to hit value.
Joseph Woll, G, Toronto Maple Leafs
I know Toronto is playing the tail end of a back-to-back, but New Jersey isn’t a very good hockey team, and they won’t have Jack Hughes in the lineup. Joseph Woll is a good goalie, and we get him at a nice $7,700 on DraftKings. The upside here is fantastic and we could very well get him at under 5% ownership. He’s probably more of a GPP option, but you could consider him for cash games.
Alex Lyon, G, Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings have been up and down all season long, but they need this win tonight if they want to make the playoffs. The Washington Capitals are on a losing streak, and they are still a terrible offensive team on the road. Not sure why we are getting Alex Lyon at such a discount tonight, but I will gladly take it.
Frederik Andersen, G, Carolina Hurricanes
If he gets the start tonight, Frederik Andersen is by far my favorite GPP option. He’s $7,400 and has a tough matchup against the Bruins, but the veteran netminder is 8-2-0 in his last ten games with a 1.31 GAA and a .951 SV%. He’s also added three shutouts in that span, so why is he this cheap?
I get the matchup isn’t great, but at this price tag, we can’t pass up on him. He’s a risky play in cash games and the other goalies just have way better matchups, but Andersen should be your GPP lock by a country mile.
Recommended DFS Skaters
Highest Expected Goal Totals
- Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Jet Greaves (4.2)
- Colorado Avalanche vs. Filip Gustavsson (3.9)
- Florida Panthers vs. Joonas Korpisalo (4.0)
NHL DFS Lineups: Best Skaters To Use
Nathan MacKinnon, C, Colorado Avalanche
Even without Mikko Rantanen in the lineup, Nathan MacKinnon is still my favorite centerman on the slate. His matchup against Minnesota might not be the best, but MacKinnon has 83 points in 38 games at home and you just know he’s going to add more to his total. He needs the shot bonus and multiple points to hit value, but that’s not an impossible task for such an elite player like him.
Auston Matthews, C, Toronto Maple Leafs
I have no problem with rolling Auston Matthews out on a back-to-back. His shot total has been a little inconsistent of late, but he continues to score goals and that’s the most important thing. The Devils are still a below-average defensive team, and their goaltending will forever be unstable.
Nikita Kucherov, W, Tampa Bay Lightning
At this point, you can’t stop Nikita Kucherov, you can only hope to contain him. The Russian winger has nine points in his last three games and 22 in the last ten. He refuses to stop racking up points, and yet, you can still get him at under $10K on DK. I know he isn’t a shooter, but he’s racking up points and just constantly hitting value. The Blue Jackets aren’t going to be able to contain him, so I’m expecting another big night from him.
Kirill Kaprizov, W, Minnesota Wild
We know how good the Colorado Avalanche are on home ice, but in their last two games, they’ve allowed 13 goals. Minnesota may have nothing to play for, but Kirill Kaprizov is one point away from 90 on the season and he has four goals in his last two games. I expect a monster performance out of him.
Roman Josi, D, Nashville Predators
The Nashville Predators have come back down to earth as of late, but Roman Josi is still an elite DFS option. We know what he brings to the table offensively, but he can also block shots and that helps keep his value high. If you want to get some exposure to Nashville, this is the route to take.
MacKenzie Weegar, D, Calgary Flames
I have a full-blown man crush on MacKenzie Weegar for DFS. He continues to be a stud on the back end racking up shots on goal and blocked shots. He managed to hit value last game despite not registering a point. I know he has to play the Sharks, but he has managed to block three or more even against below-average opponents. He’s an excellent option in all formats.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Panthers released TE Jordan Matthews.
Matthews converted to tight end a few years ago and hasn’t made much noise at the position. The change has, however, likely kept him in the league for a few more seasons. He appeared in four games with the Panthers last year but didn’t record any stats on offense. The Panthers also released or waived WR Dax Milne, C Andrew Raym, and TE Colin Granger.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
