Sabres vs. Penguins Prediction: Wednesday, October 16th

Every single day, we learn more about these teams and my report on the Sabres and Penguins is that they are not playoff-caliber clubs at the moment. Both have glaring issues but the one thing they share is the complete lack of defense!

The Penguins are 4 games into the season and they are 3-0-1 towards the over on game totals thus far. They’ve scored 14 goals and allowed 14 goals. Tonight I am looking at much of the same, although the Pittsburgh offense may need to shoulder more of the load as Buffalo has just 8 goals in 4 games. The Sabres defense has given up 12 goals, though, so that’s enough to back the wager of this game going over 6.5 goals tonight.

Adding onto the total is a player prop for a Sabre by the name of Tage Thompson! He has 14 shots already this season and gets a Penguins team that is allowing 33 shots per game so far, which is third-highest in the NHL. Thompson should have little trouble hitting his mark of 3.5 shots tonight against this defense, so give me the over on that line.
