NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 4/2

Bruins vs. Predators Prediction

This matchup is going to be a sneak peak into postseason hockey tonight as the Predators and Bruins are two of the hottest teams heading down the stretch! They are built the right way for the playoffs as they play rock-solid defense and get goals when needed. For tonight, that has me looking at a defensive-driven contest.

Nashville at home has protected their net as good as anyone over the past month allowing just 1.9 goals per game to their opponents. Seeing as the Bruins are scoring just 2.7 goals per contest on the road in the same time span, the under is starting to look rather inviting. Pekka Rinne will get the start for the Preds tonight too, and he has stopped 149 of the last 161 at home in March and will look to continue his hot streak.

On the Bruins side, I am a bit worried about the Nashville offense that scores over 4 goals per game at home post Valentine’s Day, but the Boston defense should be equipped to handle it, allowing 3 goals per game on the road in the last 45 days. Between Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman, they are in good hands as well, so give me the under at 6 goals before the line moves.

Blackhawks vs. Islanders Prediction

Backing the Islanders can often be a risky endeavor as they are hard to pin down, but this matchup against the basement dwelling Blackhawks can’t be ignored! Not many teams are as poor as this Chicago group that in the previous 45 days on the road have scored just 2.3 goals per game and have given up 3.8 goals per game.

Of course, this puts the Islanders in attack mode as they make a final push for the playoffs and the stats are so lopsided for each team the Islanders must win this game. I fully believe they will win but the money line is way too chalky. So, we are going to middle the bet and take them to win in regulation tonight on the 60-minute money line.

That’s not all though as I am adding a player prop to the card, and it's going to be Bo Horvat’s shots on goal for me. He is projected at 3.17 shots tonight despite his line of 2.5 shots. Plus, the Blackhawks are allowing 32 shots per game on the road in the previous timetable. I think he goes over tonight with ease as the Islanders control play for much of the game.

Canucks vs. Knights Prediction

There are the occasions when the sportsbooks make a number too small on game totals that you must consider attacking it. That’s where I am tonight as the Canucks head out to the desert to take on the Golden Knights.

These two teams on paper are known for their defensive prowess, but if you look at the recent splits, you’d find the opposite to be true. In the last 45 days (considering home/road splits), the Canucks have allowed 3.5 goals per game while the Golden Knights have given up 3.3 per game.

Hardly impressive numbers, and if they stick to the line of 5.5 goals, it doesn’t stand a chance. Expect it to come down to the 3rd period, but I fully back the over tonight as each team has been a bit sloppy of late. Along with that, the Canucks are 21-13-2 to the over on the road this season as a cherry on top.
