That's not because there's significant issues with the negotiations, instead it sounds like the Canucks first need to navigate through the draft and the initial free agent frenzy. In the meantime though, Vancouver and Horvat have been in talks and there's reportedly an understanding on what the rough outline of the long-term contract will look like. Horvat's existing contract runs through the 2022-23 season, so they can afford to take their time with the negotiations.

"I broke the end of my tibia. Luckily there’s no displacement or anything and doesn’t require surgery," said Horvat on Sunday. "It’s a 6-8 week thing.” Horvat concluded the 2021-22 campaign with 31 goals and 52 points in 70 games.

Horvat was injured on a shot block in Thursday's game against Arizona. He appeared to take the puck off the inside of his right ankle. Vancouver has 15 days left in the 2021-22 campaign and he could be sidelined for longer than two weeks, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Horvat was done for the rest of the regular season. He has racked up 31 goals and 52 points in 70 games this year, including 17 markers and nine assists in his past 24 appearances. 

Horvat left Thursday's game against Arizona early into the second period after blocking a shot that appeared to strike the inside of his right ankle. The Canucks captain is currently listed as day-to-day, but if a break is discovered upon further evaluation then that sideline him for what's left of the regular season.
